classic boxing pictures

this is actually one of the projects I have on hold ($$$),

not just the filming, but historical understanding of the film, camera's, their operators & of course the filming. types of camera's, experts in the field doing the filming, small hall events too main events... with exactly the same technology & the poor use of it, and of course the poor quality of most of it.

Boxing, the Black & White Film Experiment!

I mentioned this to Mike Delisa over at the CBZ about 9 years ago.

 

T, an easier way would be to watch Charley Chaplin films of the silent era...The actors walked funny as the hand cranked camera's were out of sync...A couple of years ago a boxing historian took a film of the Dempsey ko of Jess Willard in Toledo, and put the film in proper sync and speed...His comment : I was astounded by the power and speed of the Dempsey massacre of Willard in proper time...As a young kid I watched pro fighters from the John Henry Lewis stable spar and shadow box...Just like today they were...Today's critics of the oldtimers, based on a film or two,
so primitive in it's true speed and synchronization, are mis lead badly...
They today rave about a Sam Langford, but call a Stanley Ketchel a wild club fighter based on two clips of Ketchel fighting a great tough MW Billy Papke 20 rounds with a broken hand and with the debacle with the 40 pound heavier Jack Johnson in 1910, but forget the FORTY NINE knockouts
by a prime Ketchel over top opponents...Too bad these critics didn't see Ketchel ,though 12-15 pounds lighter than Langford more than hold his own
a few months before Ketchel was killed...Stanley by this time was a shot
[no pun intended] fighter friendly to cocaine...Summing up, our grandpa's
were not much different than us, just TOUGHER...
