Why shouldn't the best sportsmen in their sport not be permitted to fight in their sport? Just because they get paid for it?

I sure hope this is a damn joke! Who in the world would come up with this stupid idea? The guy needs to be imprisoned for life. Leave the pros out of amateur boxing. Some greedy ass idiot or idiots are out to try and destroy amateur boxing and out to make money off of this. The United States of America needs to keep their integrity and values intact. It actually seems fair given how many athletes stay Amateurs as careers.

They also need to change it back to the old ways. Get rid of the head-gear and stick with the Pro Style scoring. Just make it the same as a Pro fight but with 3 rounds.

Olympics should be about THE BEST athletes in the World.

 

It's only saying they "could" compete. As in they might. Nothing has changed yet.

This is going to be some bull****. Because what's the purpose of being an amateur now? The AIBA just stabbed its amateurs in the back, because there is no benefit to them from this happening. Where's the glory of getting knocked out of the Olympic trials by a guy that's won his third world tltle belt when you were getting your PAL trophy two months earlier, this reeks of the AIBA trying to reach beyond its station and trying to get into the World Sanctioning Body game(WBC, WBA, IBF, etc.) in order to become a more lucrative organization.

What about Coaches and fighters, do the coaches travel with their Pro fighters even if they fight for a different country(Roach and Manny, Roach and Khan, Steward and Wlad, etc.)? Do Promoters have to approve their fighters participation? What Promoter would, Olympians don't get paid and can take a loss damaging their marketability.



And now this talk about taking the headgear off? What parent would sign their kid up to get his head bashed in at 12(which is wear someone should start their child amateur boxing) with all of the new data on the issue?

The Olympic powerbrokers ****ed up the basketball years ago by doing exactly what's being proposed here atsch

Remember the American Dream Team, all millionaires staying in 5 star hotels, playing against amateurs who were living in the comparative squalor of the Olympic village.

 

It won't be top pro's so world champs etc won't be allowed to box, just prospects really.

They are reverting back to no headguards and a ten point must system as well sometime in the future. Next season or the one after I believe.

The amateur bodies want to make some big changes in the coming years.

 

This can't be real.

In other sports this could be OK, but in boxing, we're talking about people with tons more resources and sponsors and conditioning behind them vs oftentimes poorly sponsored talents, and that advantage can result to a serious injury or a talent that will never flourish.

 

What the **** is wrong with you people ? there not pro's there semi pro's
