It would wreck your wrists after a few swings.

I've always loved the two extremes in these threads.

"He could have never done that with a hundred pound barbell!"

"500 lbs? Pfffft. Thats not a big deal."

I would be shocked if Foreman couldn't lift far more than 500lbs. I'm no pro athlete. I weigh around 95 kilos/210 pounds and I'm 6'1 1/2 and am able to squat 228 kilos/502 pounds albeit with balanced weight on a smith machine, one below.

So I don't see why most light heavies today couldn't do that.

This guy probably weighs much less than a light heavy and he sqatting 500lbs easily.

The Ali vs Lyle bout as presented on ESPN classic includes
an interview with Lyle outside somewhere, Lyle says that
he got to the point where he could do 1000 pushups
in an hour in prison, I believe he was in Colorado sate prison
for 7 years. He also did situps, squats, maybe pullups ill
watch it again when i can. Maybe he didnt do 1000 every
day I would think if youre doing that many you would
allow a day to recover. On the Letterman show, i think
shortly after the Cooney fight, George attested that
Cooney, Lyle, and Cleveland Williams were the hardest
punchers he faced. Lifting a 500lb cow seems dangerous,
and silly. Any verification of that?

Vitali is probably stronger than either.

    Please.

I did that in high school and outside of a couple paltry scholarships was never paid a day to play sport.

I ask cuz I'm pretty sure that at my age advanced age I could come close to that. But I only do push ups with my feet a couple feet off the ground or plyo push ups. Perhaps some day soon, I will try and keep my adoring fans abreast of my geriatric abilities.

I think you completely miss the point of how much easier a smith machine makes any lift.

All stabilizing muscle groups are taken out of the equation.

There's nothing comparable difficulty wise between the two.

I get that. I was just giving an example of what a non pro athlete can lift.

...Then you must have been pretty damn powerful. 500 lbs. is a shitload of weight. I'm sure there are several 175'ers could do it, at least for a one rep max, maybe two reps, but they'd have to be very strong guys.

Are people still actually debating this

Vitali has many qualities but isn't really that strong for his size and no way is Liston as strong as Foreman

No there aren't 2 extremes, boxing with 100lb dumbells doesn't happen and is BS, squatting with 500lbs is certainly possible, very different exercises
