Defending Prizefighter isn't a bad idea actually. Perez can call out whoever he wants, but he isn't really on the map, even at domestic level. His record is way off any of his contemporaries on the Brit scene and his name is left out of the mix, which is a shame as he had a bit of a buzz about him when he first won PF. He needs to showcase himself a bit, as his style could potentially sell tickets. But he either needs to fight a lot of low quality opponents and get people talking about him (ala Deontay Wilder), or fight somebody decent and step up. The worst path is fighting poor opposition once a year.

He did indeed. I remember a lot of people where interested at the time, and I was thinking they really need to do everything in their power to capitalize on it, but the ball was dropped big time.

When I was watching the Bute Behind the Ropes episode, I sort of drew comparisons between Bute and Perez - in how he had moved home to build a career in Boxing. Everyone always moans about how Perez won't become a draw over here; Well, look at how popular Bute has become in Canada. Mike just needs to be promoted properly.

A successful, exciting heavyweight could of course become a star over here. It's just the stop/start pattern of his career that isn't allowing him to build any momentum. If there had of been a consistent drive behind him after PF, they could have got people talking.

It's a pity he and Matchroom didn't come to some sort of agreement after PF, so he could fight regularly on their shows and get consistent exposure.

Sadly this is probably true, Perez should be fighting regularly at 220lbs, not at 237-247lbs. :verysad

I expect to see him return at 245lbs+

Very true, when you think Matchroom don't have a heavy of any note on the books.
Hennesy has Fury, Maloney has Price, Chisora for FW, Towers for Hatton etc. Having a big fella on the undercard helps sell a few tickets if nothing else.

Matchroom should've bought Perez from his crappy promoter.

RTE are out of the Pro boxing business - that in itself has largely killed off most live shows and made it impossible for most guys to fight at home. We are now dependent on Sky cards coming here.
