Kostya scared, Hamed scared, Casamayor scared, Cotto scared, Oscar scared, Shane Scared till Floyd got to the top then they want to fight him. You guys don't even follow boxing.

How many consecutive fights against champs has Floyd fought in a row now and he still get hated on???

A lot of the modern champs are fighting great comp and they get bash for no reason.

 

I think if he did stay at lightweight for as long as he did people would be bitching about him not moving up and dodging guys at 140 and 147.

Couple that with all of his out of the ring weight problems and ballooning up, yeah, people would be shitting on him. Don't even get me started on how he quit in the Leonard fight.

I don't agree with the thread starter. Duran is part of a selective club of boxers who were refered to as ATG way before the end of their career and it would be the same nowadays. I agree that boxing fans have a short memory sometime, but we're not that bad. Look at all the Morales fans around. A lot of people wants him to retire but everyone respects him.

 

Duran is on a whole different level then many of todays fighters. 15 rd fights and the level of opposition in the 70's and 80's are some of the best ever.

You need to understand that Duran was already on the downside when he beat SRR in 1980. That fight featured a heavier, slower, weaker Duran, comparatively speaking, the the ATG who dominated the lightweights from 1972 to 1979.

If Duran were around today, fighting as a great lightweight, he would be lionized as a potential opponent for Pac Man and Mayweather Jr. He would probably beat them both, too.

The Duran who lost to SRR, Hagler, Benitez, et al, would be regarded -- quite rightly -- by today's scribes as a fading version of the former ATG.

Yeah todays media would have eatin him alive if he pulled that quitting ****,its not a knock on Duran imo,just more about how the media works In todays age
