On the way to work this morning I picked up todays edition of a well known UK tabloid newspaper. Starting at the sport pages, as I always do, I was stunned by one story in particular

    'Eubank in ring return'

    and

'EU cant be serious - Chris ,45, plots return to the ring'

At first glance I thought this must be some sort of joke. On reading the article however, it appears that good ol' Mr Eccentricity is at least half serious about this.....

"Im a Light Heavyweight now and when I look at 47-year-old Bernard Hopkins I think 'If he can do it, why cant I?'"

"I was even talking to Nigel Benn and I said: 'Come on kid we've got to get it back on' It would be a fantasy for me to actually box again, especially on the same bill as my son"

The story goes on to explain that Eubank snrs last bout against Carl 'The Cat' Thompson was way back in 1998, yet Chris is a stone lighter than he was for that bout.

So whats the deal? Is Chris serious about this? - he certainly doesnt lack the passion. Or could it be that, like many boxers, he is missing the spotlight and seeing his son in that position is making him a little envious?

Personally I loved Eubank as a boxer and a character and he's still a great character today. The perverse side of me as a boxing fan would half like to see Eubank and Benn go at it again. But lets be realistic here Its not a bout that should go ahead (I cant speak for Nigel Benn but Im fairly confident he would not be interested anyway - but who knows). Ok B-Hop has managed to do it but he's been active throughout the 14 years that Eubank has been away from the ring. Surely he doesnt think he could still have what it takes......does he?!

Leave em gloves hanging Chris and thanks for the memories!

I think its sad, when great boxers wants to get back in the ring.
And don't know when to say call it. with a RJJ as a prime example of that.

I can imagine how hard it is to hang them gloves up for good, but your health
could be danger, and a great posibility of getting humiliated up there (depending on who get in the ring with).
Enjoy your memories, and the good fights you have given us, the rest of us still do.

Eubank has had a fantastic career. No need for him to return, but if he did, fighters like Toney, Jones and Hopkins who ducked him and Benn, better be ready if he gets back in shape

He is definitely a few cards short of a deck. He was good and had a decent career. It is over though. NOw is time to let the next generation have their shine.

He was **** in his prime, and he'll lose to the poorest of journeymen now.

So yeah, I want to see that...

Thankfully, this won't happen. Old guys who comeback or don't know when to quit, contribute to the current ill-health of boxing.
