I think he could still fight. I think if he would have be more active he could have beat Kid. i scored it 98-91 Kid.
I'm a big Winky Fan but I hope he stops fighting. I hate seeing guys I like get beat because they don't have it anymore.
He retired via twitter today. He wanted to come back to be a champion, he isn't beating any champions at Middleweight or 154, so he decided to hang them up. He didn't look awful, but it's the worst he's every looked, and it won't get any easier as he gets older. Good career, hall of famer.
Heartbreaking. Wright was my favorite fighter, but after Williams and Quillen, I'd hate to see more loses to fighters that, in my judgment, couldn't hang with him ten years ago.
Thanks for the memories champ underrated fighter who was unfairly criticized because of his style. A true stylistic nightmare in his prime and an atg at 154.
A defensive mastermind who was impossible to look good against. Kid looked pretty good against him last night. It is time to hang them up. I will never forget how fresh he looked after schooling Tito. Not a mark on him. He looked like he had gone for a jog, not been in a 12 rounder.
winky was a good fighter, and seeing him on the canvas live on saturday hurt. oh well winky , time to hang em up.
Winky was a genuine elite fighter and will probably make the HOF in the first ballot. But it's time to go. I thought Winky had a style that would mean he could fight on a bit,but he's not been active enough to stay sharp and he's almost unrecognisable to me,despite not getting hammered the other night.
In his prime, Winky wasn't a big puncher, he used a piston like jab to get the job done. At 40, I doubt his has the stamina to take over the fight with that jab like he used to. Definitely not at MW anyways. His body didn't look as strong as it used to be either, his comeback plan needed another few months of training, but at any rate he doesn't belong at MW. He never really fought there in his prime anyways. Despite outboxing Jermain Taylor, Taylor was able to knock him back through his guard.
I'm glad he's calling it a day. I've been a big fan since the Mckart fight and I honestly believe he's still good enough to beat someone like Bundrage/Spinks winner or Kirkland if he stayed active and had a tune up at 154 instead of jumping into top tier opposition like he did vs Williams and Quillin after long breaks but all in all it's good to see him leave with his speech in tact and a good head on his shoulder without embrassing himself in there. HOF bound!!! One ofthe ATG's of 154
Without a doubt. And when you think how hard he had to work to get there.Never got the favours a prospect with a fraction of his talent might get nowadays. If you wanted to give a young kid a true boxing education, you could do a lot worse than getting them to appreciate Winky's abilities. Bow out gracefully Champ,it's been wonderful watchin ya!:good
