I think many of those fights are more even than people would think. Consider how M Griffin gave Jones trouble in their first fight, by walking Jones back. You can point to the rematch, but Griffin was caught cold which happens.
I dont recall Roy fighting fighters this good. Toney was struggling with the weight had so many close fights and SDs and McCallum had been clearly beaten by Tiozzo. Hill was coming off a loss to Michalczewski

 

your "coming off a loss" bit is tired.

Froch was "coming off a loss" against Bute.

Hill later knocked out Tiozzo in 1 round, after losing a decision to Michalzewski and being knocked out by Jones.

Kessler beat Froch "coming off a loss" to Ward. And Dirrell beat Abraham "coming off a loss" against Froch.

So "coming off a loss" has no more importance than "coming off a loss two fights ago" or "coming off 2 wins and 1 loss" and so on.

 

Beats everyone, not too sure about Ward though.

"coming off a loss" means something if you beat the guy who lost then claimed you were better than the guy who beat him right before you did.

& frankly it also means something if you're fighting all the guys who are "coming off a loss" but not they guys who beat them.

like the triangles of rjj/hill/dm or rjj/mccallum/tiozzo. which were what baily was talking about.

The man was eye-poppingly dominant in his prime, enough to be really lazy and carry his opponents until he was bored of them.

 

Ward RJJ would be fun

an athlete like Dirrel would be interesting but he lacks too much

Dawson would be real fun

an old B Hop might be fun

An unorthodox puncher like Pascal could have fireworks

Campillo would make it real interesting that guy can box

I would love to watch Froch try to gut it out and make a heart filled try

Kesslers technique and skill could posses problems

You note I said close losses or SDs are a different thing from a clear schooling.
I couldnt comment on the J Louis fight because I have only seen the Schmeling fight and not the others, but Schmeling was considered an old HW then who had come out or retirement previously.
Leonard/Duran was a close fight where Leonard fought wrong against a naturally smaller fighter and Lewis was handling Rahman easily before he got caught.
Thats alot different to say A Abraham who was being schooled badly each time and losing confidence

 

Roy was a special fighter.

Not a big fan of his ducking and was good to see him get Koed a few times.

But in reality, Roy wasted his prime, the guy was so damn good, I find it hard to pick anyone against him in his prime.

 

Come on, RJJ's speed would be too much for Ward. If Froch was able to land good shots on Ward, just imagine what RJJ would do.
