What type of money do boxers in Britian get coming from a decent/good amateur backround get for 4 rounders, 6 rounders, 8 rounders etc when they start their pro career? I'm sure purses vary But I would assume £1k would be minumum for a 4 rounder.
Isit worth even stepping in the ring for under a £1k considering deductions of 30-40% on the purse, paltry pay
Yeah, it is worth it if you want to be a fighter. You have to fight to get better, and you'd be suprised how many pros there are, starting out, that would fight for free just to get a fight.
from what ive heard a pro boxer at the lowest level gets about £400 win or lose ,,so if they have a good amature back ground unless they win a medal at the Olympics ,,they would get around £500 with a percentage of ticket sales ,,,,if you have a medal then people will invest in them (sponsor) at the end of the day its down to the pubic,, if they like what they see then more people will buy the tickets ,,which then gives the boxer a better pay day this is me not being shore ,,just what ive heard from others
When I lived in Phoenix, they were putting on shows for local fighters, all starting out, in 4 and 6 round fights. Ringside tickets were $20, all others $10, and you got 4 free tickets if you brought in a coupon that was in the newspaper. One guy that fought on those had been the top US amateur in his weight class for a couple years, then got screwed at the Olympic Trials. George Garcia fought on them, too, at least a couple times and he got to the Finals at the Olympic Qualifying tournament as a HW. Nobody got a percentage of anything. Maybe they got $100 per round. There was a controversy at the Forum in LA some years back when it was discovered that the girl that won the Miss Ringsider contest got paid more than world ranked flyweights fighting main events. By the way, those guys in Phoenix, there were so many young guys looking to turn pro that couldn't get fights, that they'd get together in various gyms and fight, not spar, fight, for free, just to stay busy.
£400 a bout is beyond paltry, I doubt any trainer is going to train u for 10% of that.. will likely pay out of your own pocket, I think promoters are short changing the fighters, a small show with about 500 crowd at about £20 a ticket is £10k even after expenses there should be more than 400 quid in pot for a fighter. But this likely the lowest example, where u have unheard promoters if your a decent prospect and sign with a well known promoter u shouldnt be seing that type of money.
minimum wage a boxer gets IN HIS POCKET if £700, he gets like £1k but are shared out to the manager etc. Obviously this purse increases alot if you go well in your career
All professional boxers that a know with British Boxing license and WBU License have signed a paper saying that their minimum wage is £700 in their pocket
There's a pro boxer on these boards from the UK who talked about his purses not long back and he only got paid £700 for his third fight and that was an 8 rounder, his first 2 fights were less than that. I believe that was 'full pay' aswell.
That really sucks to be honest. Im going to be honest and say that the promoter of these fighters I know is a really nice guy who cares for his fighters. He actually jumped through security and went ringside screaming for his fighter to win :yep . So yea, some promoters can really rip your balls off and make you fight for peanuts
