Lewis will always be remembered; Calzaghe will probably only be remembered on boards like this within a certain group of nuthuggers.

unifying in your last ever title fight and then running away to face apparently safe oldies is not the same as unifying when you have the chance and keeping your titles year after year against anyone who is the best a la Lennox. credit to a British Welsh boxer for at least unifying though.

why? they had almost equal spells as champs, but Lewis fought much better opps. How does my picking the REAL answer and you not picking it make me a dumbass? Oh I see, you called me it because you now look bad for making the wrong choice, but dont want to admit you did.

    Lewis.

This has one very important reason. Lewis fought a lot abroad, while Calzaghe fought at home except for a couple of show fights at the end. I am a fan of Calzaghe's abilities.

Calzaghe had super human stamina. It is not adaptability as some would like to believe. It is simply the opponent getting tired.. for example, Calzaghe said that he thought he was going to lose to Kessler until he saw Kessler breathing hard in round 6 or 7, and then on Kessler had to take long breaks while Calzaghe just kept going. For this reason, because calzaghe is able to throw more punches during a fight than any other SMW (and above) fighter ever has and probably ever will again - Calzaghe will be VERY difficult for anyone. Ward may do well for the first half, but also he with Conte and all would not be able to keep up Calzaghe's pace.

But.. back to the topic. Lewis fought an impressive number of away fights and that seals the deal for me.

Lewis is one of the greatest Hw. He fought against very good fighters. There is no other Hw on his era who could match his resume.

On the other hand I don´t totally agree with the view that JC ducked for example Jones jr or Hopkins. To me its obvious that both sides are gilty for it.

And if someone wants to accuse him for not travelling you can think a bit how many times Roy Jones jr or Hopkins travelled to fight to a different continent at their prime. Yeah, I know. They didn´t. And its known fact that fighting home is a major advantage.

Any way Lewis fought everybody and he didn´t have luxury to fight at home.

Lewis beat everyman he ever faced, KO'd big names in big fights and was dominant. So Lewis for me.....

Calzaghe as much as fan as I am only came to play with the big boys late on his career. He has some great wins Eubank (i still give him good credit for this), Reid,Lacy,Kessler and Bhop but then there was a massive gap where he fought Tocker Pudwill and Ashira even just swapping them fights out for someone like Clinton Woods and Glenn Johnson would have given him much more depth. The middle part of his career was a bit of a waste in terms of achievement,

Lewis just has quality names while he was at top= Ruddock,Bruno, Mcall, Golota,Briggs, Holyfield, Grant,Tua, Tyson and Vitali and ive missed out some decent names in there. Its a frightening list of wins.
