gridiron, rugby, NRL. how long before polynesians domminate heavywight boxing as well

    gridiron, rugby, NRL. how long before polynesians domminate heavywight boxing as well?

    well perhaps not gridiron. but they ARE well represnted in that sport. 80% of the NZ NRL team are polynesian players. the NRL has about 30% (and growing) polynesian influence. rugby is domminated by them in OZ and NZ.

    the reason? big, fast, strong, smart and talented. just how long is it going to be before boxing at the higher weight divisions become domminated by these big athletes?

    obviously the rugby and gridiron have the $ to throw around and take a lot out of the boxing circut. but there must be a wealth of potential boxing talent all over the pacific and in NZ and OZ.

    alex leapai is one. david tua is another. i dont know of any other. perhaps kali meehan is another, just he is a bit long in the tooth.

    anyone have any ideas if there are pro gyms in samoa, fiji, etc? where are these fighters?

    see article. but i think you may have noticed that in the past 20 years they have gone from one or two players in the NRL to having an influence of about 30%. rugby is even more obvious, and they are well represented in gridiron as well. use google.

    i recon they are 'our ' best chance of ever having an 'aussie' world champion...:deal

    i think generally it's considered from the wider community that they more rely on size than any other feature.......... what's between the ears isn't high on their lists of achievements.

    Now you have singled out one player who u consider smart (that's still debatable what's happend in his life to date)........ i could list probably 100 in my defence but won't put their names on a forum like this.

    The Australian aboriginal has much better credentials ....... size is the only thing the polynesians have over them..... then you get a monster like Greg Inglis and it's game on

    polynesians dominate youth unemployment and crime in metro areas solve this community problem and anything is possible until then its pay day to pay day mentality

    A lot of Polynesians (Samoans, Tongans, Kiwis, Fijians etc..) have natural athleticism talent in terms or skill, speed and strength. They also have that natural killer instinct that when controlled can be dangerous. Most of their talent can be contributed to being bought up in sports early on in their childhood, either from school, parents etc.

    ...unfortunately a lot drop off the bandwagon because they rely too much on talent and not hard work. If you also have a look at their staple diet and how they eat its not exactly the best. Consistent hard work, discipline and education is some of the key factors in order to better prepare them for elite level.

    Seems to be lots making it to NYC (Toyota cup) in the NRL & then they start to fall away

    I've actually noticed theres seems to be lots of them going to the UK to play, where the game is actually a lot less structured & rigid, really might suit their style of play

    Rugby perhaps yes the other sports no way,Girdion far out id be flat out naming a top line Islander that plays let alone "dominates" :patsch Dont try tell me Benji Marshall dominates he can dominate a game every so often but is a very inconsistant footballer imo and is very overrated :good

    He got knocked out by Wlad had a few more fights where he lost most of them and we havent heard much of him since.

    Personally I don't think a lot of Polynesians have the mental fortitude to succeed in a sport as tough and boxing.ovviously some do but generally as a whole no .
    The dedication needed to reach the pinnacle in boxing is far more tougher then sports like gridiron and the rugby codes ..physically Polynesians on paper could rule the heavyweight division until the end of time with there speed and crazy strength for such big humans.. But mentally they lack .. That's where boxing tests a man spirit .. Mentally .
