Welcome to the cold reality of professional boxing where **** happens! Same old story we've seen over the years: a fresh group of boxing fans ride the high waves of a successful fighter, feelin' invincible and bigger than the sport, but eventually downturn comes and the aura of being special vaporizes along with the naivety that the dirty side will escape them. My heart goes out to Pacquiao fans who's favorite fighter got jobbed, but I'm here telling you it's just a taste of things to come, our sport is ready to offer some more. :-(

We've seen some great fighters over the years, truly outstanding achievements, but eventually each proved to be just fighters at some point running into politics, deterioration of skills, late career losses and some nasty knockouts leading to slurred speech and other post-career issues.

This is what happens in the hurting game, and if you thought Pacquiao won't step on this path, you thought wrong. Winter is coming, more shady tactics, more underwhelming performances, more losses that will leave you scarred, and when powers will build the next star on the back of your aging favorite, that's when your stomach will get sick. How do you think Hatton fans felt when you were celebrating Pac's win? The difference between you joining in at PacMan's rise and us earlier is simply that we've been through the painful rite that makes a boxing fan: following a career from start to an underwhelming finish. We are all scarred and will forever remember our favorite fighters getting jobbed, at 50% of prime skills, getting knocked out and go out on a negative note. The reason so few of us stayed - and just a few of you guys will remain - is because this is what you'll experience over and over again, and not many have the stomach for it. But in return, boxing will offer you excitement and action no other sport can, unpredictability, wide range of skills and styles, an international fanbase to discuss match-ups with - good memories will overwhelm bad ones! :thumbsup

June 9 2012: Pacquiao fans came to age and got some taste of things to come. I sincerely hope Pac will escape the more nasty stuff and y'all remain in boxing once he's gone: it is worth. :happy

It was Ricky Hatton for Me.

I was a Hatton Fan. I stayed with him through the Maywether defeat, and n his comeback.

Then when Pac ended him in one punch. It made me a little ill.

BUt your correct. Most of my friends left boxing with Hatton. Where I carried it through and it's now my sport of choise, as apposed to just being a fn of one boxer.

Fanboys exist, because most fans will start like you said, Following one boxer.

I've been a fan since I was 5 years old, Ali, Mathew Saad, Bumpus, Weaver, Hagler and Mcclellan is a few of the names of some of my favorite fighters who have lost and left me with that empty feeling. As a boxing fan I know that new fighters come in and create new excitement. Manny and Mayweather are on the downside of great careers and there are new hopefuls on the horizon.

They can always just shift their focus to be centered around Midwestern American super middleweight former prospect Phil "The Drill" Williams.

He's probably got a brighter outlook in boxing than Pacquiao. :yep

Come on, don't play dumb. You know full well that long-term fans such as yourself are a tiny minority, drowning in a sea of newjack bandwagon riders who came along at some point in the last 4-5 years during the "epic" climb 17 lbs north of super feather.

how does supporting manny make me a *******. That implies i don't know ****.

I spend about an hour a day watching boxing and reading the news.

I go about 10 ive boxing events in england a year. I've been to Matthew Hattons for Crying out Loud!

I was at Froch Bute Fight.

I get up at 2 in the morning every other weekend what whatever HBO event is on.

Preffering Manny as a fighter to a floyd does not make me a *******!
