Did Cotto outbox Mayweather in certain times of their fight?

Gotta love Cotto's jab. The guy fought a great fight.

 

Cotto has a great jab, and he's a good counterpuncher, and early on if Mayweather decided to put pressure on him, Cotto would have done a lot of damage, but Mayweather was too smart for that.

Cotto knew this, so he applied pressure. Cotto's problem is that he tends to stop and watch his work, fades, and he's easy to hit.

Cotto had some success early when he was full of stamina, but for the most part Mayweather picked him apart.

And when Cotto faded, his already porous defense allowed Mayweather to hit him with some clean, hard shots.

This is why Bradley would be a harder fight for Mayweather because he doesn't observe his work, he keeps on firing, and he moves his head.

His strategy would be to put pressure on Mayweather for the entire duration of the fight, but not stay in one place.

Mayweather would have to work his ass off to beat Bradley, who would mostly hit gloves and air with his punches, but would also be harder to hit with clean shots, and would not fade like Cotto.

If Mayweather fights Bradley, it would be a decent scrap, but an ugly fight.

 

Yeah sometimes his jab really got to mayweather.

 

If he did he did not sustaine his better molmets to win any round other than the 9th.

 

Don't get it twisted, Cotto is a good counter puncher, and if Mayweather decided to "walk Cotto down" at the start of the fight, he might have gotten knocked down in the process. He would certainly have been hit much more.

But this was not the case, nor was it going to be. Mayweather is too smart for that.
