I'd give him tons of credit, because everyone says he's an overrated can-crusher/bum, and I'd love to see him win against Mayweather and ascend to the top of the sport. I love watching him fight. Meanwhile, most Floyd fans would say the only reason Canelo won is shoddy judging/Jail/Age, or all all three, and would say that a prime Floyd would have tooled him, etc. Aging might play a role in his eventual demise, but Floyd has always relied more on his technical skills than his athleticism anyway. He hasn't lost his technical skills; he's just been forced into fighting in a more stationary way since his reflexes and legs aren't quite what they were at the lower weights; at 154, he was never going to bounce around the ring, potshotting people like he used to at 130-140. Even against Cotto, he was getting overpowered and pushed onto the ropes; he beat Cotto because even though Cotto might have been controlling where the fight took place, he was still getting outlanded by clean counters from Floyd even when his back was on the ropes. Floyd certainly didn't want to do that- I imagine he would have preferred to keep it in the center of the ring and dance around potshotting Cotto- but he knows his legs aren't there as much as they used to be, and he wanted to save that for the later rounds; after Cotto slowed down in round 10, Floyd was able to do his usual thing in the middle of the ring. Canelo is a bigger, stronger man than Cotto was, and is quite skilled and poised for such a young fighter. He just might have what it takes to win a fight with Floyd in 2012. He'd deserve all the credit in the world if he beats the much more experienced Floyd Mayweather, even this older, more stationary version.
Mayweather could barley make 154 lbs when he was eating good every day and training. No way he comes out of jail after a mentally taxing experience being the cell for 23 hours a day eating only 800 calories of food and ready for a fight at 154. If mayweather took the fight i would give Canelo credit for capitalizing on Mayweathers stupidity.
Huge credit. Mayweather will still be an excellent fighter in 2013 and I havent seen Canelo fight good enough to beat Money May. It would take a special performance! Hence why I would give him credit
