Should the Ref be that 'extra' judge ? Why not ?

There have been a lot request for more judges in order to avoid robberies and have more accurate scoring.

What about making the Ref one of the judges ? He is the guy closest to the action, sees when guys are really in trouble, knows which punches really land, and has an overall better feeling for who has won the fight.

I think making the ref an official judge and having him turn in a scorecard in between every round would be a good idea.

that is a very interesting idea. however, by doing so you have an even number of judges. who will be the tie breaker? how about a judge in a booth watching the fight on a television without sound?

I'd want to know what the refs think about this first. They may not want to do it and find it too much of a distraction from their ring duties.

how about we just give the judges polygram tests to see if they r honest? too many phony *******s in boxing

we could also let 3 civilians judges who r neutral and not bound to the commission or getting paid to alter their scorecards. u got 2 or 3 saying he won and then the other 3 who arent paid and just giving their opinion say wait thats bs. so and so won the fight not what the other 2 or 3 judges said

dude the ref is already too busy watching out for fouls and if the fighters okay you cant seriously expect him to be judging as well.

^ Exactly. The ref has enough to do without trying to count points.

are judges screened before they come to the fight like that night....whats stopping them from being intoxicated while judging...im not talking about hammered where its visible but some people can carry being intoxicated or high without raising any flags.

    Honest question though

Interesting idea in principle, but alot of the time the ref is too buy trying to keep the fight clean and the action flowing.

In reality - a pretty ropey idea.

The ref used to be a judge as well, and in England the ref is/was the only judge. (Don't know if it's still the case.)

I've never liked the idea much myself, as the ref needs to focus on his main job. Let's face it, it's not about where the judges sit or anything like that.
There are always going to be controversial decisions because scoring is subjective, and corruption, if it's going to happen, will always be there.

    Three judges is fine.

Three judges is clearly not fine.
