Lots of exchanges, all close rounds, Holm mostly evading, the rounds she's won she's stolen late on surges of effective power punching while still being evasive. 3-2 Holm through five, on the ringside observers' card.
The podcast guys were split on the 6th, but agree Mathis turned it into a brawl in the 7th and 8th. Banging away. Some rabbit punches.
Mixed reactions on Twitter. Some happy for Holm, saying she gave Mathis a boxing lesson. Others disgusted with the verdict, calling it home cooking and her a coward.
saw Holly at defined fitness wednesday night where she was cutting weight. I told her the 1st fight was for the fans now this fight is for you. She thanked me and said she knew what i meant. She's a nice down to earth lady and fit as can be in person. Hope stays in the pocket real low and fires the 1-2 in b/n mathis wide looping shots. If she does she wins wide.
I didn't know. I didn't read the last posts just the thread title and chimed in. That's great that our girl won. Did she stick and move all night and win a close decision while not engaging at all, or did she war just a bit here and there to get a win and please the fans?
All I know is the little that was shared from ringside on Twitter, most of which has been relayed here.
Pissed this wasn't on TV, Big fight. Really only watch Braekhaus, Manthis, Bopp, Kentikian, F. Wallberg, Hammer and M. Juarez in female boxing, but this is a Pacquiao-Mayweather like fight in Female boxing, should have TV IMO.
Holm is at the table, speaking with the media at the press conference. She is being very defensive about her strategy of...well, being very defensive. She is a bit offended at the line of questioning, saying it wasn't crowd pleasing but that it was the smartest way for her to ensure victory and she doesn't regret it. She wasn't planning for and didn't expect a knockout. She says her game is more of a technician's, and that Mathis is very heavy handed and it would have been stupid to brawl with her again.
