Hi Guys, i usually come to this site and mostly read what people say about boxing, fights, figheters etc... generally most people complain or insult one another, the few who have something positive or educational to say get overshadowd by the hord of immature comments and insults... you all know what i am talking about (*******, gayweather are among the most common words on this site). That being said after the many bad decisions, corrupt officials, Major drug test fails i was about to slowly but surely start removing myself from the sport. Why should I support a sport that allows all this crap to happen. Out of Curiosity i was googling to see if people were feeling about this sport the same way i was and i came accross this website that talks about starting a league and advancing the sport to what i personally hope it becomes (this is directly from their website) Open scoring Elimination of subjective rankings Shorter, more action packed bouts Patented point system Team format World cup & world individual championships Endorsements Integrity Competitive matches Senior corporate management team Continuity of programming Major advertiser event sponsorship and support If (and that is an average sized "IF") these guys succeed it will be a major change in the sport that will make boxing a lot better in my humble opinion. Finally someone is attempting to save the sport, it will be very difficult for them but if you like their idea speak up let me know what you think and if you love the idea then promote it as well like i am doing right now. (this is their website take a look) http://worldboxingleague.net/.
Yeah not really down for any major overhaul. It wouldn't work. Boxing needs a few adjustments but it would have to happen slowly over time. Most of the people who talk bad about boxing or say "it's dead" dont know anything about it. The mainstream news and the casual fans see one fight a year and if that fight isn't amazing they all take to the twitter pages and say "boxing is dead." Team format for boxing sounds bad. World cups sound silly. These fighters want championship BELTS like the fighters of old. We cant throw out traditions because of a few bad eggs and such. The 10 point must system is fine as long as the judges aren't stupid or crooked etc. Boxing could use some slow gradual changes but a complete overhaul sounds bad and I would politely say "**** that."
You shoulda got in a few Pac vs Mayweather debates before throwing your site out there bro. You know, build up your credibility as an ESBer.
yes and they should also make the fighters be robots and eliminate jabs, only power punches should count
Sounds very stupid. The current way of boxing is fine. It is the people in charge who are the problem. Any talks of teams or leagues of scheduled fights resembling basketball or football is ridiculous but there does need to be one commision/sactioning body that oversees all of boxing and ensures rules are followed and fighters are not mistreated.
basically this world boxing league wants to control all of boxing for themselves and basically be the Emperor from Star Wars.
Boxing is more like a Zombie, it's undead It won't die, it won't go down, it keeps coming, hungrier than ever
I've written similar posts, I totally agree. They also need a fighters union. It's really the only way for boxers to get paid fairly and fight bad decisions and special interests in the sport. A team sport would also make it more viable for people as a whole. People like to follow teams, but I also agree for the individual champions, because people like to follow individuals, and individuals are in it for personal glory. It'll make it more competitive with tournaments as well, and make it easier for training so coaches aren't caught up between individuals. They could also have salary wages and steady income. :good
Sports is ****ed but for a few men at. The top. Namely arum, Oscar, Floyd and PAC. These few are making 99 percent of all boxing revenue. That's like some .05 percent making 99 percent of the money. Which although is awesome for the fanboys to salivate, isn't healthy for the sports. Not when the 300th best nfl player and 300th best tennis player are financially secure, yet the 300th best boxer in the world is stacking shelves to pay his rent. Think about that. If your the top 300 in almost anything, anything, doctor, architect, actor, lawyer, accountant, programmer, you're probably making great money, boxing is the hardest sport at all, yet that guy, even the 50th best fighter , isn't rich. I think boxing if it could be wiped out, should follow the tennis model or the golf model, of individual athletes on a circuit. UFC s model is fit but is ripe for corruption and monopolistic power flaws as much as boxing. At least arum has Oscar, white has nobody to keep his paws from puppeting the sport and ****. But this ll never happen I boxing , not when that much scrilla has been made this year from boxing for the people in power. Great sport, the best ,greatest sport, but the absolute worst sporting business model of any of the major sports.
I agree, this interesting new model isn't going to be perfect but it is head and shoulders above the current one (in theory at least)
