Revisiting a classic: JuanMa vs. Siri (and no, I don't mean Lopez...but Marquez)

Orlando Salido, disqualified for drug use after fighting Robert Guerrero, has tested negative in a follow-up test.

After the November 4 IBF title bout in Las Vegas against Guerrero, Salido tested positive for the substance nandrolone in his system.

Salido immediately had a follow up test at LabCorp, a nationally recognized blood lab, and the findings were negative of any steroids.

"I said I never took steroids or any performance enhancing drugs and the lab tests prove it," states Salido.

A doctor who wishes to be unnamed until formal proceedings begin, agreed with the star:

"It is commonly known that nandrolone is produced by the body, especially in periods when the body is placed in stressful activity like dehydration, diet and strenuous exercise. If Salido had taken steroids, his second test done only one day after NSAC findings would have shown it still in his system. Steroids don't go away overnight!"

Salido now wants his title back, and doesn't rule out a re-match with Guerrero.

"I won the title, I will keep the title and if Guerrero wants another beating he can call my manager," said Salido. "For the sake of his health and safety, I highly discourage it. Please stay at home. It's much safer than in a ring with a real champion!"

Dinamita is Marquez's ring name.

He was called by the nickname JuanMa by friends and fans alike LONG before Lopez even turned pro...as most everybody named Juan Manuel is nicknamed for short in Latino communities.

Lopez happened to take the very common nickname and use it as his billed ring name (ie what Buffer or Lennon adds to his real name in the introductions to bring a little flair) and thus probably brought some more attention to his use of it...but if you think he's the first person to ever go by JuanMa..:-(

Prior to 2005 if you were talking to a bunch of boxing fans about "JuanMa" they'd know EXACTLY who you meant. (Marquez)

I am a big fan of Robert "The Ghost" Guerrero both inside the ring and out - but there are two guys he never wants any part of a rematch with for fear of getting smacked around again...and they account for the two No Contests on his record.

His one official loss, he avenged by KO. Well done. You will never see Guerrero publicly demand a shot at redemption against Salido or Yordan, though. He knows it would backfire on him.
