Stumbled on this article before http://www.boxingprospects.info/16/post/2012/06/mexican-prospects.html Well worth a read if you want to know about some of the best Mexican youngsters. Gotta say the future looks bright for Mexico.
I am familiar with most of those fighters but Cuadras is a rather limited fighter that has issues with guys that box him. Andy on the other hand has excellent hand speed and decent power. I met Andy at a show he did in Maywood, CA and spent about 15 minutes talking to him. Top Rank is doing a good job of bringing him up. One guy that is off the radar is Super Bantam Weight ALejandro "Cobrita" Gonzalez Jr. as he is coming along very well. He looks very good for a 19 year old with less than 14 fights. He has regularly sparred Giovani Segura, Miguel Vazquez, The Matadors, and Tekken Fighters. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RG1imtteAiY[/ame]
Santa Cruz is a world champion and Garcia is ready for a title fight so I find it hard personally to call either of them "prospects" more "champion and contender". But yeah I think we all have to really rate them.
Juan Saucedo http://boxrec.com/list_bouts.php?human_id=589278&cat=boxer ... was on the Lee-Chavez undercard. Only 17, good boxer, and good power. Five years down the line he might be decent.
Personally if you hold a world title you're no longer allowed to get away with prospect type development fights. A prospect fights in development fights against C/B level fighters, world champions fight against world level fighters (at least they are meant to, Chavez has done it, Canelo has yet to fight against anyone world level...)
Prospects and "prospect-champions" really need to be held to completely different standards. If you are a title holder you need to prove it against fellow top fighters in your division, if you are a prospect you get a lot of leeway for facing tough journeymen, faded contenders and even the occassional "bum".
Looks pretty good, hopefully he will move away from cans sooner rather than later so we can see if there is any quality to him.
Would he not be considered more of an American than a Mexican? At least in regards to where he was born and where he is raised?
