If you watch the fight again and particularly the 8th and 9th rounds you will see Vic has his mouth open. Now, even the most novice of boxers know you are suppose to keep your mouth closed to avoid getting your jaw broken. Victor, who is a triathlete and likely was not sucking wind enough in the 8th/9th to necessitate breathing through his mouth, was fighting with his mouth open. Seems to me this could help support the notion that he broke his jaw earlier and couldn't keep his mouth biting down on his mouth piece.
IIRC he actually first said the beginning of the fight. Jim Gray said "the beginning of the fight or round" and then Vic corrected himself saying yes the round. That could easily imply that is when the jaw broke to the point where he felt an inability to continue, but felt that he injured it earlier (as likely indicated by his whispering in Garcia's ear). I've said all along that I thought Vic was mentally weak after Maidana, but this stoppage had legitimacy written all over it.
Yea... He severed the veins in his heart. ***** quit... Put some duct tape on that **** and keep movin.
I don't see how is safe for him to keep going with the amount of blood that he is spewwing out. It is a legit No Mas.
garcia ushered him away from the interview because the ringside physician said he had possibly severed a vein and they needed to get him to a hospital quick!
ortiz wants the fame and prestige of a de la hoya but he doesnt want to work for it our get beat up.. he as much as admitted this after the maidana fight!! He's a ring bully, he tries to use his sizeand power to impose himself on his opponent but once you stand up to him he wilts and looks for a way out starting with fighting dirty and cheating... he lost heart when lopez started egging him on and chasing him despite VO hitting him with his hardest shots... he got smacked in the mouth and it started to bleed well guess what? this is boxing... thats what u get the big bucks for... violence for entertainment... u dont like it get the hell out the game!!
You can get a broken jaw without being hit by a power puncher. He also didn't go down once. So how can you bring how the "cheap china" bull****. Ali had a broken jaw, didn't mean it was "China", fact is Ortiz was seriously bleeding and the diagnosis afterwards has confirmed that HAD he continued the fight he could have had a career ending injury. Saying that, having an iron plate in his jaw like Arthur Abraham tends to improve punch resistance.
