Has anyone looked as good as Ortiz and been so disappointing?

    Ortiz for all his talents has a low ring IQ. I noticed this back when he fought Maidana and then thought to myself he fought one of the dumbest fights in recent memory. He brawls with guys far too much instead of boxing with them. The guy is also mentally weak and melts down under pressure. It's really a damn shame because the guy is an exciting fighter and good for the sport.

    Judah at least had his time in the sun with some pretty good wins especially at 140.

    Lara is a different case, he's much more "advanced" than most with the amount of fights he's had and I mean, the "win" he had against Paul Williams should put him on the stage where he can afford to fight a Cotto or someone like that.

    The main problem with the Cubans seems to be lacklustre promotion and not being willing to get them in against the guys they should be fighting.

    Rigondeux and Gamboa come to mind as two excitement machine fighters at the lower weights who don't get on the big cards, who aren't being used properly and ultimately might be "wasting away"

    This is the key for me, too. Ortiz has such a skillset that if he was able to make adjustments, he would be great. Too often he fights the other guy's fight.

    Don't get me wrong, it makes for exciting fights. Who doesn't love to see toe to toe? But he has the physical abilities to be a well rounded fighter.

    He needs a better trainer. He doesn't adapt well. He got the physical gifts but he doesn't make adjustments when his offense is not working.

    Agree completely. There's no good reason for either Rigo, Gamboa, or Lara to fa e guys several level beneath them, unless it's a quick 'stay busy' fight (ala' Toney a decade and a half ago).

    I don't know if Arum is worried about Rigo and keeping Donaire away, because he shouldn't. Donaire is a hell of a fighter, doesn't need to be protected from another top fighter. In a division w/ Mares, Arce, Vasquez Jr, and Rojas, there's potential for some good fights at SuperBantam. Otherwise a move up might be in order for the Cuban.

    At FW, it's the same w/ Gamboa. Caballero, Solido, Gonzales, Johns. the fights are there. And if Rogo moves up, that's another.

    I think Rigo beats Donaire to be honest, I think Donaire has a few good wins that were made to look great rather than being the great fighter people think he is, I feel like he's only a few fights away from becoming the next Cristian Mijares

    Add Deontay Wilder to the list.

    He seems to have all the skills, & insane 1-punch power, but when he fights those bums, instead of drawing blood he draws tomato sauce.

    Additionally, (maybe because he's actually bored during this "matches," he clowns around in the ring, which makes him look foolish to many fans. That's not the way to generate "big fight" interest.

    "Disappointing" is an understatement.

    Wilder is endemic of most American fighters these days in my view, not having the hunger to push themselves into big fights early in their career
