i think cotto was the best he's looked in years. i wouldn't call it A plus though...more like A minus. an A plus cotto beats mayweather.

Khan should be thankful that he hasn't fought Mayweather. It would probably end with Mayweather winning via late TKO or wide UD.

That being said, the first few rounds could be interesting, due to Mayweather's age and the style match up. Khan could frustrate Mayweather on the outside with boxing rather than the pressure approach that most opponents use (using his speed, reach, jab and combinations). Khan is also a big mover -- he runs around the ring. It's tougher for older, more flat-footed fighters to chase down young guys who hit and run, especially if they aren't naturally aggressive. (eg, Whitaker vs Hurtado.)

After a competitive round or two, Mayweather will focus on coming forward and cutting the ring off behind a high guard. Khan will slowly fall to pieces on the back foot, and he'll get picked off after that. If he could box well off the back foot I'd give him more of a chance in this match.

To be fair, Khan would know more than anyone about declining fighters.

Mayweather is declining. He has for some time.

Floyd's athletic peak was from 130-140.

He is also 35 and has been training extremely hard in the sport for a very long time.

Why does Ortiz look like an African child in your avatar?

Great analysis. I feel the same way. What starts off as a technical, chess match affair turns into Mayweather stalking Khan, similar to the way he walked down Mosley.

Mayweather is slipping a little bit, but he's still very sharp. Cotto had more to do with his own success than Floyd's age. If you were surprised he did better than most expected, it's because you underrated Miguel's abilities, not misjudged Floyd's spryness.

    mayweather IS declining.

old mayweather runs circles around cotto.

cotto isn't that great. i don't know why after all these years , people still don't realize it.

cotto is a good fighter with solid talent but is nothing special.

    Floyd is clearly declining.

Of course this is a relative thing, Floyd in decline is better than most boxers ever but - facts are facts - He's in his mid 30's - He's not gonna get faster, his footwork wont be as good as it was in his peak etc etc.
