Jimmy Wilde, undisputably. Conteh and Buchanan were good, but neither (particularly Conteh) were ever as great as Wilde. Wilde, Lennox Lewis and Ted kid Lewis are all greater than these guys. In more modern times, Eubank and Calzaghe were/are underachievers, neither got in the ring with enough great fighters. Calzaghe had the talent to achieve so much more, and could have become the very best British fighter of all time. Similair with Eubank. Both are still among the greats, but not the very best. Benn had a better resume and due to his many epic fights and particularly G-Man, is greater than Eubank, and on a par with Calzaghe, who would overtake him with wins over Hopkins and Pavlik. Lewis is greater than Calzaghe, probably always will be. Fitzimmons I do not really count as a Brit. So Jimmy Wilde.
It a shame there wern't the sub-Fly divisions in Wildes day but, despite an amazing record, I don't think he achieved enough when compared to some of guys he's up against for 'Best Brit'
i'm sorry, but if you consider lewis a brit then you have to consider fitz a brit. although i'm not sure why i'm arguing with you about it as it's a fact that neither of us can change, bob fitzsimmons was british.
On techniquie and skill no one would beat Conteh he was foolish and let the high life take over his boxing career his family also ruined him
That Hide things funny. Ridiculous in this thread, but i'm glad his names being bounded about (even if it is by a nut hugger) Unfortunately we'll never see him back in the UK to challenge Haye or Macca. Shame.
yeah i know, i was trying to think of boxers that hadent been mentioned, but i still think they all deserve a mention . bottom two anyway, nothing wrong with the others .
