Why bother talking about some fight that will never happen? JCC is the golden goose for Top Rank, no way they're going to put him in with Martinez so he can get destroyed.
At the end of the day Chavez's best wins come against a guy who was dominated by Sturm easily (a guy Macklin was 50/50 with), a guy who was dominated by Pavlick easily (Martinez beat Pavlick), a guy who lost to Vera and a very debatable decision over Molina early in their career's. Martinez is over-rated yes but he was under rated for much of his career. At the end of the day I look forward to the fight, I think Martinez will win in a tough but convincing display. I hope he does too as JCC is the real hype job.
Welcome to the real world. The fight will go the distance, and Bob Arum will not let his cash cow lose his "0". JCC wins this by decision, whether he deserves it or not. I said the same thing about Bradley: Bob Arum wanted to create a new cash cow, seeing that Pacman was getting all religious and talking about retirement. Pacman fought better, but Bradley got the decision. It was predictable, just like Chavez-Martinez is.
I feel you there! There's more excuses for cancellations these days than any other time in fight history....
Martinez is a very good fighter and his run the last two years is one of the best in boxing. Pavlik and Williams were really big wins and his last 3 defenses were all against solid middleweights and he stopped each of them. At 37 he probably is starting to slide and there's a few guys you could argue deserve the #3 pfp spot instead of him but he's a lock for top 5.
3/11 in jabs against lee lets me know everything, because if you wanna beat a guy like martinez, you first need to have somewhat of a jab, because that's what helped macklin, barker and dzinzurik.Chavez can'afford to let sergio martinez pick him apart for like the first 4 rounds, because martinez is a accurate puncher and if a guy like zbik can land 335 powershots and 54% connect rate,i can imagine what martinez can do.We all know chavez is a slow starter, but ask yourself this, say chavez is down 6 rounds to zip and getting outclassed, this is the reality of that night, because i think after the 8th round chavez will begin to slow down and show frustration.9th round martinez steps up his aggression and chavez gets caught with a counter left and dropped while going to the body and he gets up wobbly and survives the round, but round 10 is where martinez drops chavez 2 more times and the ref stops the fight.Chavez style is perfect for martinez, because he has no defense and he can't jab to save his life, martinez will keep him turning and keep it in the center off the ring.
well u might have right . If Sergio won't succeed to T/K.O Jr , the decision will go to Jr . Arum will do his work as usually does . By the way of Martinez last 2 wins ! This content is protected is a solid fighter ( Commonwealth Middleweight & EBU (European) Middleweight champ ), very underrated , mostly because he's a European boxer ! He would be a tough competitor for every top fighter from 160 , even 168 pounds ! aaaa and he's a big MW unlike Martinez . This content is protected - he beat Sturm and was robbed !! :-( both are younger than Martinez !
It seems like almost everyone is considered a "hype job" these days. It's tough living up to message board standards.
The reason Sergio Martinez is considered one of the best in the world is because, when you step past Mayweather and Pacquiao, there really are not too many hugely impressive fighters out there. Look at Andre Ward- 2 very good wins over Froch and Kessler and decent wins over Green, Bika and Miranda. And thats enough to be top 5-6 P4P in most people's eyes. Donaire has a lot of potential but if he's not smashing top 3 opponents in that division then just how great is he?
well...there is a lot of people here saying that because barker and macklin made martinez look ordinary that Chavez is going to beat him...well by that logic Chavez fought Zbik and you can make a case that Zbik won that fight...Macklin goes to fight sturm and he was robbed of a victory....then Sturm goes and pummels Zbik really bad...the rest of the history you know it...(using that logic)
Sexy Sergio is an awkward fighter with a very unique style. The more exposure he got on the world stage, the less novelty his style had making him easier to deal with.
Hype job??? The man is one of the very best in the sport and has proven by beating elite fighters. Martinez is a proven champ and far from a hype job.
