Where is the source for this? Where is the official communication from GB?

This is pretty disappointing... IDK what Maidana is up to lately trying to fight canelo at 154 but wont fight freakin thurman who i think he'd KO anyway. Whenever he is asked about Matthysse he says "I rather not fight a fellow countryman" I'm a huge maidana fan but he's been really sketchy. One possibility is he is actually fighting Matthysse and trying to keep it under wraps for now...thatd be great

I agree with you. This is why I would like to see if anyone has official communication and not the old rumor mill running on overtime.

If there is no official communication then op needs to stfu.

Go to b-scene and ead the article. . . Maidana confirms it himself.

    I can't post the article here. . .

Boxing is so fickle, I never try to make a thread until it's for certain.

A week ago there was rumors he was pulling out, but then Maidana said that's not true. . .

Then today he confirms he is pulling out, and basically admits because Thurman is too though of an opponent, and not a big enough name for the risk.

On one hand, though, it's not like this is something new. . Boxers do this all the time - a lot of them do. . So I kind of respect him for being honest about it. . But maybe it's just the hardcore fan in me that always wants to believe these "warriors" will fight anyone, anytime, anywhere. . .

But nah, **** him, he waited until today to do this ****? After I've done my homework on Thurman, studied him, and was planning on breaking down the fight, etc.

He shouldnt have backed out, But honestly that was a big mistake in the 1st place, Huge risk, Very low reward since Thurman is unknown. Still if he wasn't ready for that then why'd he take the fight??

If he is passing on the fight to get a better match, such as Matthysse, then he is still good in my book. If he goes after a bum, he will lose a fan.

according to him, he's either going to fight a bum on the 21st, or soon thereafter, or just try to fight a big name later.

why couldb;t he just continnue with this fight, and then get the big fight he talks about in 3-4 months?

I really wanted to see this fight. . . Was an interesting matchup to be. . . most imprortantly, why did he deny the rumors a week ago, and just now pull out?

There's no way he'll get a big fight with a big name in the next month anyway?

I thought it was somewhat suicidal for him to want to fight a fighter already fighting at 154lbs. I'm sure more details will follow. He has commented on how he takes fights without knowing the opponent, maybe he just finally checked on him.

Khan and Mayweather are A-siders, meaning they can pick whomever they want to fight. And Maidana just fought at 147, got outclassed. He obviously doesn't even belong at 147. Thurman has been fighting at 147 and above.

I agree. Pullout 3 weeks before a fight that is being advertised, promoted, talked about throughout the forum world. Keith is a local fighter to me that I have followed through his highly decorated amateur career into his undefeated pro career. Maidana's team had every excuse in the book. They said he was too big. He is 5' 9" not 5' 11". ww not jmw, look at Boxrec to see weights. The only oversized beast is in his gloves which they probably assumed would put the Argentinian to sleep. Maidana you cost me and a lot of people a lot of money with your unprofessional business practice. You sir are now labeled a COWARD.

Its not the 1st time that Maidana has ducked an opponent.

last year, Maidana ducked Humberto Soto (and lied that he was fighting McCosky).

HBO just advertised Maidana VS Thurman after the Donaire fight. Is it happening or not?
