Motorways are fine. You need to be off at J33, Meadowhall turn off...dead easy, all signed up. Don't pay parking at the arena, park in the pub across the road for free (Arena Court I think it's called, it's a Beefeater kind of pub), or the Barclays building.

    edit: Arena Square

I have only seen his fight with Gomez and he looked **** no wonder he has 8 losses.

He would of had to improve a lot to KO most non elite fighters considering there are only may be 4 at those weights

Park on Carbrook Hall Road, it's a 5 minute walk from the Arena, you will miss all the traffic that way.
If you park in Arena Square it can be a bit of a non mover for 20 minutes...

Parking near Phillimore School, however, is not a great idea!!! (if you know the area, H).:good

Too right, I take it you know the old Fiery Fred pub?

I think I do. I was warned off it one dinner hour when I fancied a pint. I was told there was any type of drug in the world you wanted in there.

I did a lot of work at Phillimore School a couple of years ago. There's a good kebab place just down the road, and Tom Dip do some great dripping sandwiches...and you can read back issues of Boxing News while you wait!!

Called Greenland now, allegedly - I just remember going into a sandwich shop asking what the pub down the road was like and got looked at like I was an alien. (edit)

Good advice, it wasn't the best place to enjoy a pint, someone was blasted in the kneecaps one night.

I've been to Tom Dip a few times over the years, i don't know the kebab place.

If my memory serves me right the kebab place is next to the newsagent, just down from the small supermarket (asian-owned) around the corner from the school. I never went in there, but the children in my class told me it was chipper!

I did patronise Arena Square a few times while I was working at Phillimore, good pub (it shouldn't be due to layout etc and its foodiness), always had a good pint of Deuchars or Black Sheep. I had to remortgage my house a few times to continue going in there.

If you head out of Darnall and into Attercliffe you're assured a great curry.

Just got the late local news on, Meadowhall area (a mile or so from Sheffield Motorpoint Arena) is flooded as ****. Stick to the main roads fightgoers!!!

edit: it's the River Don which was close to bursting its banks, not the roads, however pray for no rain!!! Just been out with the dog and it's spotting here (Doncaster).

I know the place your talking about now, it was a chippy many years ago when the pub was open.

Arena Square is pretty decent, but seems understaffed when the Arena has an event running, bit pricey but a damn sight cheaper to get a few beers inside you, before getting totally ripped off in the Motorpoint.
£4 for a can of Carlsberg it was when Brook fought Hatton.

Yeah agreed about the curries, Induz is always a decent meal on Attercliffe Road.

I know Induz, people from school went there on nights out for the old sit down curry, never had a bad report from that place. Thinking of the demographic of the Darnall area every curry take-out place should be fantastic. There aren't any curry houses on the side of Darnall I used to drive into (not that I used to know of - I used to drive past where Outo Kumpo and the rest of the industry), but where the town is is probably laced with them.

Went to the Sports Personality a couple of years ago at Arena and all I wanted from life that day was a pint in the Arena Square; not a chance, we were told that the only way we'd get in is if we were eating...we were but I've seen their menu due to my many drinking hours in there, it's limited and expensive. We settled for KFC across the road, unfortunately not licensed.

As for concert venue beers, hell. Try smuggling a hip flask in if you're not driving. I paid silly money the last time I was at the Arena (Sports Per), it's the same across the board. Don't buy food inside either. Same old story.

I can't make the fight tomorrow, depsite it only being 20 miles from me; it's a shame. You showing up, Champ?:good

Forecast is rain all day tomorrow, trams have now stopped running to Meadowhall due to the water level at Meadowhall bridge..

Link to webcam from Sheffield Council showing the Motorpoint Arena and surrounding roads

    Oh my.

I lived in Sheffield for three years, did my degree at USheff, it was always ten times colder and wetter than anywhere else around there.

    The rain's a gonna come...

Which way do you suggest fightgoers travelling from outta town hit the Arena?

Me, I'd be M18, M1, off at 33, past Meadowhall. But if the road's going to be bad...suggestions, just trying to help people out. I'm not at the fight tomorrow, just trying to help folk out.

Induz was the first place i had a sit down curry after a night out, although i haven't eaten in the place for over 3 years, i ordered a meal to take away a few months back and it's still quality grub.

Will keep the hip flask in mind for next time :good

I can't make it due to my mates wedding, but will be viewing it on Sky, gutted to be honest, when Brook fought Hatton it was a memorable night out, what with the scrapping in the crowd then one of the mates getting knocked over by a top of the range Merc :yep doing under 5mph..

Will you be watching it on Sky?

I'll be watching for certain. It's a decent night of fights tomorrow. Klitscho early doors, Brook and company, and Tyson Fury later (recording that one). Heaven!

Tell your mates not to be so inconsiderate next time and plan weddings for Sunday so they don't clash with any decent fights!!!!:good
