A Boxing ring is a platform to show yourself what you're capable of. It's a squared circle which doesn't suffer liars. You see guys get hit, and they either shrink and look for a way out, or bite their mouthpeice and punch back.

Lessons taught by this sport extend to life. Giving up does not get results. Life will hit you hard, learn from your mistake and don't get caught again. You get out what you put in.

Self control, discipline, conditioning, confidence, core attributes are all attainable through this sport.

Savagery can be beautiful in Boxing, it appeals to the animal in our cortex, the caveman. We've evolved, but still harbour primative urges. War, blood lust, the need to prove superiority. Survival of the fittest.

Tyson, the spinks fights springs right to mind. back in the day you left the room at your own risk because by the time you came back with a snack it was over

When I was a kid, my father had a small pair of boxing gloves hanging from the rear view mirror of his car. He was no longer much of a fan, but used to tell my brother and I detailed descriptions of his favorite fighter's bouts. That being Rocky Marciano. We would listen completely entranced. My father's interest in the sport waned. But my brother and I loved following the sport. It's something we share to this day and it always gives us something to talk about.

As a kid in the 70s, we always watched the big fights, especially those that involved Ali and other high ranking heavyweights.
My granddad used to take my brother and I to one of our area high schools on friday nights to watch amateur and lower level pro fights.
Loved that. Some great memories, to be sure.
Always had an interest in it, from the very beginning.
Fast foward to my 30s, after the party years.
I trained in karate for a while to get back in shape, and liked it, for the most part. Funny thing was, when we sparred, I had the habit of evading my opponents kicks, then getting inside and boxing them. It just came natural to me.
One year my karate school closed for a week for summer vacation, and I went to a local boxing gym to get a few workouts in.
Long story short....I was hooked, and still am. I quit karate and focused on boxing. Never looked back, and never regretted it.

JKD when i was 16, I ended up only working out mostly with my punches. But what really got me into the sport itself was sweat pea.

I found out how technical and demanding of character it is. Both of those things immediately attracted me to the sport once I started learning the basics.
