What big named fighters of the past would you give John Ruiz a shot at?

We all know John Ruiz was not exactly magnificent per say, but he did fight a rather large handful of good fighters, and I believe was only stopped once in some 50 fights. Additionally, he was a two time WBA champion ( for whatever thats worth ).

What big named fighters of the past do you think he may have either beaten, troubled or at least gave a good fight to in a losing effort?

    Hmmm.

    Tough question.

Ruiz is a prety poor fighter but he is also a spoiler.

I dont think that he would beat many technicials. A slick boxer with a smart fight plan would generaly have his number.

If a fighter could be tied up in the clinches then he would usualy make the fight competitive.

Ruiz would have a chance against someone like Braddock. The Cinderella Man was one tough hombre though. His skill set was probably similar to Ruiz's.

Come on, Braddock had more skill in his pinky, than Ruiz had in his whole body.

Braddock when he was on, was a tough fighter. I also think Braddock had a underated jab, and foot work, Not Ali footwork, but it was decent.

The truth is that any world class heavyweight, cruiserweight or light heavyweight might get a win over Braddock when his hand was a mess.

His hand injuries busted him down from world class to journeyman level.

Joe Louis, Ali, Lennox, and probably Holmes.

He would knockout Joe with his tight punching/inside work and durability he showed in the Tua fight, and outjab the other 3 with the jab he was working on RJJR.

He might have beaten an unmotivated Max Baer, fresh off killing Frankie Campbell, with a King apointed reff.

However, a motivated Max Baer, let's say every fight was like the Schmeling fight, would have brutally ko'ed Ruiz in 2 or 3 rounds, not as fast as did Tua, but just as brutally. I say that with great respect and awe of that Tua fight, which was the most brutally conclusive ko I've ever seen.

'big name' fighters? how about ed 'too tall' jones?

on the serious tip, ruiz is hated but his detractors don't recognize that other than tua (caught cold) and jones and toney (outslicked) he's been competitive with every fighter he's been in with.

who could he have beaten? fitzsimmons, hart, willard, baer, schmelling, braddock, walcott, patterson, johannson, terrell, ellis, tate, berbick, tubbs, tucker, witherspoon, coetzee, bruno, mccall, botha, moorer, thomas, weaver, dokes, seldon, old george foreman, and that's just the champions.

of course, I can see him also losing to a lot of the same guys, but to say he couldn't have beaten anyone is simple blind hatred.

Jimmy Wilde, Pete Herman, Benny Lynch would struggle against Ruiz.

Ruiz is boring, and he's not good for the sport.

But he's not a terrible fighter.

If you're not an excellent fighter, or one with unbelievable power, you're not going to look great against him.

Kind of a Skelton like fighter.

Boring & difficult to fight. Good chin.

    LOL:lol:

To tell you the truth, it would have been interesting to see old too tall go a little bit further and have a few more fights. He might have had some potential. Hell of a footabll player .
