Sure, you may be able to take him down but eventually, he will figure you out and get back to his feet, at which point its all downhill.

What it comes down to is, the opponent has to have better Muay Thai skills to beat Anderson.

The only active guy at ww/mw/lhw who could even compete with Anderson on the feet is Machida, and they'll never fight each other, so Anderson Silva will never lose a striking match ever.

I didn't see the fight but a friend told me that he thought Cote was beating Silva til his knee went out. If so what was he doing to win? Or even if he wasn't winning what was he doing to keep it competitive?

AS evolved a lot since then......especially his grappling skills.

The only way to beat Silva nowadays is to gnp him for 5 rounds and get a points win like Sonnen almost did at 117, I don't see anybody outstriking him and as for him getting subbed is very unlikely. I don't see anybody beating him now he has a very good chin also so it's not like somebody will get a "lucky" punch against him.

Agreed. I think Machida would be competitive in a stand-up fight with AS, but would still back Silva to win as he has by far the better chin I think. I like Silva much more than I like Jon Jones, and I think he is a greater fighter overall than Jones, and I think he would beat Jones handily if they fought a purely stand-up fight with each other... but put Silva in with a massive superwrestler like Jones right now at 205 and AS would get beaten down on the ground, and either TKO'd or wide UD'd. Jones has all the advantages in that fight (style and size).

His MT isn't top draw lads. Don't think he'd do to well in an MT only fight these days.

I think Sonnen showed the blueprint in the first fight.

he's still beatable on the ground. i dunno if he 'figured out' chael, or he just caught him with a good shot and finished the job. chael had him down the entire first round, although Silva's defense was pretty good. i dont think anyone can beat Silva in a striking match. taking him down is probably still the best way to go.

I don't know if they would fight each other, but Shogun would at a minimum rival him standing.

Maybe so. I think Shogun has the offence to trouble Silva, just not convinced by his defence. Still, Shogun is tough enough to hang in there with anyone.
