I'm pretty hungover but that seemed like a strange performance to me, more aggressive, less jabbing, kind of weird snake-charming movement? More lead right-hands, less rigid, a bit more flapping? I'm not attacking him because i'm a fan but it didn't seem his normal style generally? Weirded me out a bit? Thoughts on the uniquness of this performance/my hangover? seemed like regular wlad too me . maybe he was throwing alot more lead rights then usual but i was a another good old klitschko fight
I was thinking the same, alot less jabs than what were used to seeing and his left hand was very low at times, i think he just had no fear that Thompson could hurt him.
Thompson actually had the ability/height to make it hard for Wlad to land his jab. Being a tall southpaw, he was able to use his right hand to match up and paw Wlad's jab away. I think that's why Wlad was more aggressive- he couldn't set up his power shots as he usually does and had to come forward and force the issue.
It was different because Tony has longer reach, so Wlad could not rely on jabs so much.. So had to do something else. Much like Kessler against Froch and Green... less jabbing because of the reach of the opponents.
think it had something to do with him being a tall southpaw..thompson didnt want to be hit atall and you could see that from the first bell..he knew he couldnt take it..
He's done the 'weird snake charming' thing for a while now, ever since the Ibragimov fight if I recall, though he was definitely more aggressive. I liked it.
Even if Thompson wasn't a threat to Wlad so was he at least hard to fight. Steward and Wlad said this before and even though it was to hype the fight they were right Thompson is as tall as Wlad and a southpaw and Wlad fought awkward because of that. You jsut have to watch their first fight to see that even if they fought 100 times, it would never be an "easy" (for Wlad's standards) fight. Thompson even caught Wlad with some shots, he was never in danger in the fight but he didn't feel comfortable either
Thomson has defensive minded style that can make for ugly matches. I do think Wlad was more aggressive than usual. And yes, lead right work more often than not against southpaws.
