People say he's young and he's 'only 22' or whatever age he is.

It's not about the age, but about the experience.

WLADIMIR Klithscko had 42 fights in 2003. Guess who was up next for Wlad? ATG Lennox Lewis.

Now obviously, Corrie Sanders knocked him out .. and he lost his shot. That's not the point of this thread, the point is . Wladmir at 42 fights was challenging Lennox Lewis (a old 2003 version, but still the best at that time)

CANELO AT 40 FIGHTS. Fought a shot to **** to piece Shane Mosley

and now his fans are saying

'HE'S NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH FOR COTTO'

    40+ Fights= inexperience?

Wladimir Klithschko who had 42 fights at the time of the Corrie Sanders fight

stepped it up and wanted to fight the best.

Canelo at 40 fights is fighting garbage.

I mean, tbh even 30 fights is enough to challenge right?

Now obviously Wlad is an Olympian and had amateur experience, so maybe that's why he could be considered to be less green then Canelo?

To me if you have 40+ fights. You are experienced and any losses you take should definitely harm your legacy.

What I mean is , if Canelo loses to Cotto or anyone he fights next, inexperience shouldn't be a 'reason'.

UNLESS, Canelo and Wladimir fought a lot of bums? So that don't really help him prepare for Corrie Sanders?

BUT THEN isn't their records padded?

When a fighter is ready for bigger challenges can vary..
Some mature quicker than others, and some have longer amatuer campaigns to add to their experience..
Some are ready for world title shots after 18 fights, some need 30.. But at 40 fights, you should be ready.

    I think it depends

40 fights for Wlad was great experience he was at an age where he was about to come into his own held a title and was the biggest threat to Lewis on the land scape

Canelo is only 22 but he has been a pro for yrs and is starting to beat some really good fighters like Mosley and Cintron

Canelo obviously has his problems but he also isnt green

I'd say he is ready for Cotto but then again im not sure if hed win

Thus far I'm impressed on how good he is for being at a young age.:bbbStill young and has many years to establish himself.

All depends on who u have been fighting.

I could get to 40 fights and will them all, but if they were all vs feather fisted bums then can I instantly take on a world class fighter?

IMO he is being handled pretty well. In the next few years he will step up in oposition.

Wladimir Klitschko never fought Lennox Lewis.

And of course its not just about number of fights and age, they are meaningless numbers.

Its about "who" you have fought. And how you dealt with them.

I reckon Alvarez is ready for Cotto sometime next year.

I haven't seen anybody say he is not experienced enough for Cotto. It will problably happen in 2013 as Cotto is on vacation or something.

Considering that he was supposed to fight Paul Williams and then James Kirlkand, both top 10 (or better) ranked light middleweights, and then Victor Ortiz who up until his surprise loss was considered a top 5 welter(and huge one at that), i dont see how Canelo is ducking or been protected by anyone.

Also, isnt Cotto holding out for a Mayweather rematch?

Look at Fernando Vargas and see what happens when you match the golden goose too hard, too soon.
In saying that though,I do feel he needs to fight a truly credible name now.
    Horses for courses.

So Canelo had no amateur career whatsoever?

I don't respect him fighting old past prime guys coming off consecutive loses.
