I remember watching Benn/Gent live in Florida on ABC Wide World of Sports and the announce team of Alex Wallau and Dan Dierdorf were going positively bonkers when calling it!

I had a cheeky wank during the action.

looking back in British Boxing there is actually a few British S-HWs, and in the old school language they were called "Middleweights cum Light-Heavyweights".

Having fought at a time when the British Title was damn near a world title, and the BEST of them fought not only L-HWs, but HWs too, and in many more busier fights scheduals, these are the ones much better than the modern day crop!

    and they are:

    Pat O'Keefe
    Len Johnson
Len Harvey (though Harvey is more a L-HW cum HW)
    Jack Casey
    Jock McAvoy
    Bert Gilroy
Randolph Turpin (though Turpin only tackled a couple of L-HWs, he never fought any HWs, where all the others did!)

    these are Britain's Best S-MWs...

Nigel Benn was the most exciting of that list IMO. Barkley, Mcllellan and eubank fights stand out in my mind. but its very hard to find a dull nigel benn fight. the man went to WAR everytime he got in the ring.

im a massive watson fan aswell. great technical fighter, strong and skillfull and was very entertaining.

I have no idea who "Starie" is so I can't really judge him, but I guess he won't get close to Nigel anyway.

    Nigel Benn it is

from your list i would have to say david starie, especially for his rousing humdinger of a bombastic performance against calzaghe, truly memorable stuff.
