I cuaght it again a few weeks ago. For such a one sided fight, Calzaghe sure was sloppy with his punches.
Everyone was saying that Lacy was gonna destroy Calzaghe. I even read some people who said that Lacy could have some success in the Heavyweight division. :rofl
Lacy just looked slow and plodding the entire fight, JC could move in and out on him at will and was too quick for him
Its hillarious to me now that literally every single person on here says they picked Calzaghe to win the Lacy fight beforehand (yes i was a member here then) when i know for a fact that this board was 80% at least in favour of Lacy winning and knocking Joe out. Props to people like KahnB for admitting that they picked Lacy, because most people on here did. Me...well, ill be honest. I wasnt sure. Im a big Calzaghe fan, but he hadnt been great in his fights before against Salem and Ashira (i know he had a broken hand but still). Added to the constant hand injury rumours that were going round. Meanwhile Lacy was looking AMAZING against people like Scott Pemberton. Honestly, its sickening that everyone talks about Lacy on here now like he was nothing. He was devestating. Calzaghe put on what was probably the best performance by any boxer in the last 10years to domninate a fighter who Marvin Hagler called 'top 5 p4p' Instead of Calzaghe getting mad credit like he should have, half the ignorants on here instead denounce Lacy as a C-level fighter and Calzaghe as nothing special for beating him. Total and utter hypocrisy. Whats worse is, it looks like Lacy is now a ruind fighter. Not surprising because of the performance.
Og course when you throw as often as Joe does, that will happen. But still, very sloppy for a supposed 'virtuoso" performance.
I picked Lacy, but my knowledge of Calzaghe up to that point was limmited, I watched him fight maybe 2 or 3 times before that fight, but they were against fighters I never even heard of, to me Calzaghe was the hype job up to that point, because Lacy fought pretty decent competition in Shieka and vanderpool, the last fight I seen of Calzaghe was against some fighter on the Tyson/Nielson undercard in 2001.
You know what, I've always thought the same thing. Part of the reason I didn't like Cal too much was because I simply didn't like watching him fight (but we won't go over my other reasons ) But credit where credits due, there was nothing "sloppy" about his performance against Kessler. While I did tip him to win, I didn't think he was gonna do it in such "style".
I don't think so. It's not Joe's style to be accurate. He throws a lot, and he'll miss a lot. Nothing wrong with saying that.
