cox is a one sided guy. He makes good points but gets carried away with one sided figts IMO. Obviously there is a reason why a fight is one side sided, the other guy has all the advantages. The best test is when a fight is not one sided.

Great fighters win Great fights. Foreman was a great fighter, no question but he did not win that many great fights and is enhanced by two fighters from the 1960s who had already had their day but still lost to one of them. Ali and Farzier. Great fighters for sure but Ali made Norton look good and frazier made Foreman look good.

Ingo was no Foreman. I can't see what you gain by taking away things from Foreman. Moorer chose to fight Foreman because it was supposed to be an easy first defense. The Foreman fight with Holyfield was great, the Foreman chin that took shots from prime Morrison and Briggs was amazing! Give the man credit. Olympic Gold,2 time world champ is 2 time world champ no matter what you say. 68 KO's! The man pulled a jeep!

Ingo beat Patterson in round 3 not round 2 meaning the Foreman destruction of Frazier was better. Frazier was tougher and better than Patterson. Foreman beat Frazier twice,Ingo beat Patterson once. And Ingo won a Silver medal after fighting poorly against Ed Sanders,George won gold and George had fought for less than 2 years when he won that Gold in 2 rounds I might add. George was great, give the guy credit-he didnt do anything to you!

But you admit George was special. Beat Frazier twice,Norton,Lyle,Moorer,Cooney,Cooper

Olympic Gold after less than 2 years in the amateurs
    2 time world champ
    oldest HW champ etc

    Only Ali beats Prime Foreman.

After a total of twenty bouts as an amateur ? Not too bad !

I think you must have got him mixed up with somebody else. Only three of the 37 opponents on the way to the title made it to the final bell. Two of them were in his first five pro fights after a nearly non-existent amateur career and the third was far from mediocre for a young boxer to face.

And he 'struggled ' with none of them.

    So ?

Sloppy is in the eye of the beholder. He got the job done !

If you can characterize Foreman's shocking devastation of ATG, undefeated Smokin' Joe (29 yrs old, 29 fights) as

"...beats a shopworn Joe Frazier in 1973.."

then no boxer ever had a win that was worth a **** !

Are you still trying to make your case here ?

Loses to the near-universally acknowledged GOAT.

At almost 46, and having had a hiatus of 10 years from the sport.

Your own points destroy your argument, here.

(My apologies if your post was meant to be tongue-in-cheek.)

I don't know if Foreman ranks very high in the ATG of all fighters. Heavyweight he has to be there because of his power. Incredible power, but somehow I still put Tyson in front of him, yet head to head Mike could not beat Foreman.

I believe Foreman was the heaviest puncher of alltime in heavyweight history. Heavy meaning that he wasnt sharp but he could move his opponent with glancing blows. According to legend he once broke a man`s arm with a punch that was blocked.

Only Liston rivals Big George as far as heavyhandedness is concerned.

One thing about young George is that he didnt always utilize his big jab like he shouldve. He was just a terror coming after a man in the early rounds. Almost like a Psychopath. He would walk through big shots. Even Smokin Joe nailed him a few times to no effect.

Foreman's wins over Frazier and Norton are superior to anything on Mike's resume.

Mike wasn't Olympic gold medalist, wasn't 2 time lineal champ, didnt hit as hard, didnt have as good a chin, doesn't have as many wins or KO's and has more losses. How is Mike's career better than Foreman in any way? Foreman faced tougher opposition in Norton,Frazier and Ali. Tyson was TKO'd by Holyfield, old Foreman fought well against Holyfield.

The only think Tyson did better was speed. Foreman was way better than him. Foreman is top 5 ATG.

Young George only used his jab for like 9 seconds and then he started trying to kill.

Beating Frazier twice is the key to Foreman's ATG ranking. His win over Norton and his comeback after a 10 year hiatus is important, but no so importante as the Frazier wins.

I think he is definitely Top10, and arguably Top5.

You've got to laugh at the thread starter with statements like this

Without mentioning George was a month off turning 49 when he lost to Briggs (20+ years younger and one of the bigger punchers of his era) and was ****ing robbed to boot.

It's pretty obvious this is a closed mind speaking when he also holds a dramatic come of the floor KO of Ron Lyle as an example of why he isn't great. Neither Lewis or Tyson managed a single off the floor win in their careers to my knowledge.

Was Foreman crude, clumsy and flawed? Definately.

    Was he brutally effective? Yep.

Was he a top 10 ATG Heavyweight? Absolutely.

There's plenty of fighters more overrated than George I'd have thought.

Of course he was special! You misunderstand me, George was a great fighter and I rate him at number 9 or ten.

    He sure did. great fighter.

    No.

GF got beat in his prime more than once and his record in his prime against elite fighters was 3-2.

when Old GF came back he went like 1-3 against elite fighters and disputed decisions against so so fringe guys when ever he won on points.

Actually Riddick Bowe was/is the most overrated fighter in history.

He was constantly touted throughout the 90's as the best heavyweight on the planet by the bozo's at Ring magazine based on the one fight and nothing else. Take away Holyfield and his resume is a joke yet he still got huge praise and even magazine front covers for "stellar" wins over Jorge Luis Gonzalez and Herbie Hide.

He was carefully managed and protected (intentionally or not) from basically every single heavyweight puncher of his era and his lack of conditioning and lazy attitude prevented him from reaching whatever potential he may have had. Yet to this day if there is a fantasy match up involving him against anyone (from Lewis to the Klits) you can bet he'll almost always have his supporters saying on his given day he could beat any of them but the evidence doesn't support this Bowe love at all.
