A fight of the ages - 2 defensive minded, master boxers going toe to toe.

If it wasn't for the drugs who's to say that Whitaker wouldve ever lost a fight.

Alot of those fights he was fighting under the influence --

    What a boxing genius.

Then you have PBF todays great boxer -- who somewhat reminds me of "sweet pea" - minus the out of ring distractions.

The ducking and switching angles of Whitaker v The shoulder roll and blocking punches with right hand and left elbow.

Man I think it wouldve been the greatest fight that happened in History in they came out of the same era.

    114-114 draw

    good but how?

I see these guys blocking each others punches in the middle of the ring -- PBF has the edge on height and reach. I don't know who's faster ... I don't know who's the better technician.

It also depends which era they're fighting in -- if its in this era PBF wins but I can see with sweet pea's era him atleast pulling off a draw.

I dont see whitaker making to much contact with PBF, but it seems like when PBF "DESIDES" to turn it on the punchs landed for the round is a blow out.

Whitaker UD in any weight class.

Similarities between the two include speed, reflexes, defensive awareness, timing, accuracy, etc. Differences include workrate, jab, and stance. Floyd has shown suceptibility to a strong jab before in the fight with De La Hoya(before Oscar inexplicably stopped throwing it, due to tiring or whatever), and he's said himself that he has trouble with southpaws, and when you're facing the best southpaw of all time with arguably the best jab, you could have a problem on your hands.

Next comes workrate, while Mayweather showed good workrate against the N'Dou's of the world, Whitaker constantly showed high workrate against anyone he fought, regularly throwing 100+ punches per round and 1000+ punches per fight. When you have someone as hard to hit as Whitaker, with that kind of punch output, mostly stemming from his laser accurate jab, then it's likely you'll get outlanded, even if you're Floyd. Floyd is a skilled single puncher, and can throw good combos, but he'd be getting pressed in this fight, as was Whitaker's strategy often when he wasn't faced with a pressure fighter. Pot-shotting against a guy like Whitaker is not going to get you anywhere, especially considering your connect rate would be way below it's norm, and your workrate wouldn't be as high as the guy who's throwing the 100 punches per round, most coming from the jab that would be such a nuisance to your ability to adapt.

That brings us to another point. While Mayweather has shown a great ability to adapt, he usually takes a few rounds before he finds his groove. That is against B level fighters like Judah and co. Against Whitaker, where he would automatically have trouble with his jab, workrate, and southpaw stance, he'd sure as hell lose quite a few early rounds. And unlike with an opponent like Judah, he wouldn't be able to strom back and take over, counting on his opponent to wilt late. If Floyd lost the first 4 or 5 rounds, and then did his thing in the last 7-8, I still couldn't see him winning more then 3-4 of those last 7-8 rounds.

Overall, I see Pea's direct advantages giving him too much of an early lead, with Mayweather's ability to adapt(but time taken to do so) actually playing against him. Pea by UD, about 8-4.

One of the toughest fantasy fights to judge in my opinion, floyd has the edge in power, i think he's slightly more accurate counter puncher and pot shotting, pea is the better combination thrower and has a better jab, pea defence is probably slightly better but perhaps floyd adaptability in the ring might just outdo whitaker.

Anyway i slightly slightly lean towards pbf, i think both will struggle to hit there opponent cleanly and often and think that floyd will use quick pot shots to win a very tight sd, have no problems with people picking pea though

That would be Floyd's downfall, the time he takes to adapt in the ring. If he's losing 3 of the first 4 to adapt to someone like Judah, he's easily lose at least as many early to Whitaker, and even when he gets on his game, he won't be able to bull over Pea like he did Judah, not even close. 4 rounds is the most I can see for Floyd in this matchup.

Also, a high workrate among defensive masters would certainly do better in the judges eyes and on the punchstats than trying to pot-shot with single punches against a defensive master. Pea's jab would be a deciding factor here.

A few things that I think would ensure that Whitaker to win, I think that:

    1. Floyd does not throw combinations very well until he starts to hit you with single punchs. It is very very difficult for anybody to hit Pea with single punches so I think that Floyd would not be able to hit Pea very much

    2. Whitakers southpaw jab and workrate, he would be able to keep Floyd off balence and would not give him a chance to get into a rhythm, Whitakers work rate would also help him to win rounds where Floyd is relitivly inactive which he is frequently. So Whitaker would get the better of Floyd on the outside

    3. Whitaker is a better infighter than Floyd, he could avoid punchs altogether not block them or make it more difficult to land when inside. Whitaker also has a better punch variety.

Esentially because I think that Whitaker will land more on Floyd because of his workrate and jab than Floyd will on Pernell.

    Whitaker UD.

Basically, that is how it goes down. Neither has the KO potential, so it all comes down to skills and styles, and the edge clearly goes to Pernell.
