2 match-ups: -When both were Super Feather champs. -When both were Lightweight champs. Who wins each?
I believe Chavez wins both. I see him easily slipping past arguello's jab and straight right and forcing the fight to be fought in the trenches. The tremendous body attack plus the heavy pace ends up being the major factors. Chavez ud arguello (130) Chavez tko 10 arguello (135)
I lean towards JCC as well, but don't see a stoppage. Arguello had a good body attack of his own, and this would be very closely contested.
I agree that arguello does not get knocked out in the down for the count of ten sense. I do feel that Chavez quickness gets him inside fairly easy and he then would reduce arguello's room to punch thus making it a war at close quarters where I feel chavez would dominate. Not saying chavez is worlds better than arguello but based on the type of fight it would be, chavez is the clear winner at 135. The TKO is based on the fact that Arguello would not try to just go the distance. He would be constantly taking risks. The ref would save him from further harm.
I think that these fights would resemble two other fights, those being Chavez/Rosario and Arguello/Olivares, and I think that Chavez would win at either weight. The movement of Chavez, and at 130 and 135 he was pretty mobile when he chose to be, would trouble Arguello (ala Olivares). When he was inside, Chavez would be the more effective puncher. He would smother the punches of Arguello, hit harder and get off quicker (as he did against rosario) because Arguello needs more room to punch, like Rosario did. I don't see him stopping Arguello, one of my favorites, but Chavez, another of my favorites, would win going away.
I forgot that Chavez never fought a 15 rounder. He seemed to slow down his pace considerably by the 12 round in most bouts, Arguello was a 15 round fighter and 11 to 15 would be strong rounds. That is of course unless he was fighting someone named Aaron pryor.
Tough fights for both. I lean towards Chavez at 135 and Arguello at 130...he was one of the best ever, maybe behind mayweather as the best
The thing is that on the inside, Arguello was very effective as well...He had nice, tight shots inside, and he banged a nice left hook downstairs as well. Chavez had a great chin, and I think he`d need it as Arguello would land and his punches did seroius facial damage when he lands consistently... Geez, this is a tough one to call ... I`m not sure I see anyone beating arguello at jr. lightweight ...The only time we really saw Arguello get beatdown was an amped up,prime Pryor. As for Chavez slipping in quickly, he`d have to go threw Arguello`s power as well, and those noce short uppercuts he delivered inside.
