champion emeritus

    i am a bit confused by the title of champion emeritus. is this a WBA thing or do other bodies do it too? and is it the same as a super champion. it all seems a bit daft but thats boxing for you :patsch

    It's not a WBA thing, it's a WBC thing. As you said, the WBA has it's 'super champion', which is not exactly the same, i believe. A WBC emeritus champ can actually retire, come back and be the mandatory right away (see Vitali Klitschko) or he can move up in weight, move back down and reclaim his title, which is i believe what Floyd Mayweather did with his WW title.

    thanks mate got a bit confused, is it true only wbc and wba titles get sanctioned in japan?

    its true.. they don't recognize ibf and wbo (of course) as championship belts..

    in addition, it seems that both wbc and wba are getting a huge sum of money from the japs so they can defend those titles against tomato cans.. especially in the lower weight classes like fly and superfly...
