I played both Rugby and Football. Everyone thinks Rugby is tougher but it really is more skill. In Rugby you tackle WITH the guy not THROUGH the guy like in football. Both tough sports but I've seen more injuries in football than rugby, though the only broken bone I ever had was in a rugby game.

    football??? get the **** out^^

if you would say rugby, yeah then it's true. but football, the girls' version of rugby.

ice hockey and handball are pretty tough.

but imo mma tops them followed by boxing

Depends on the individuals take on sports. For example I loved boxing, loved the training but found running long distances to be a pain in the arse, just didn't have the mental strength for it. Sure I could do it but never enjoyed it. Therefore for mental toughness I would place being a marathon runner over boxing.
Imagine, getting up every day and just running, all you ever do is run, **** that.

    Boxing

As someone has said, NFL is the childs version of Rugby. However I'm not down with any sports where you chase an egg around the pitch.

Also I don't care what anybody tries to claim

Any type of vehicle-assisted pursuits, are not sports.

    Nascar
    F1
    Moto GP
    Horse racing

whoever thinks football is more tougher than boxing needs to put a paid of gloves on and climb into that square circle

Cycling is the toughest, because when the others drop the hammer, you either go with them or get dropped from the lead pack, and once that happens you no longer have the aerodynamic advantage that the pack provide. Thus, you could be absolutely dying, and if a break takes off, you either experience ungodly pain or you lose.

(this doesn't happen in sports like speed skating & running, because the speed is slow enough that the others aren't really breaking air for you.)

Boxing is a close second, for similar reasons, (you must go when he goes) but in boxing you do have the option of covering up & riding out the round.

then, of course, there's the pain of those body shots. OMG, if you've never been in the ring, you have NO idea.

After being a former #2 elite cyclist who then went on to amateur boxing...I can clearly say both are tough as ****. Boxing tops it though, can't beat guaranteed brain damage! (And when you're completely ****ed during a round with a dude still coming forward against you...worst feeling.

If you don't like running long distances, of course you won't like running marathons but some people love it. No one runs a marathon when they hate it. But i respect them alot. Takes a lot of mental strength to run one in a respectable time.

In a list of the worlds toughest sports.

We are talking about toughness here so Boxing goes I'd place #1.

Other fighting sports fall in after that where-ever after that and the first organized sport I'd place would be Football.

I'd have MMA as number 1 and then a toss up between Muay Thai and Boxing.
