How much did the Cotto fight hurt Mayweather's rep?

Everyone is entitled to their own opionion but Cotto won no more than 4 rds and thats being generous. IMO he won 3, 6 & 8. Thats it! The remaining rounds (w/ exception of 1,2, & 12, which were clear Mayweather rds) were competitive and Floyd had to put in work to win those rds but he clearly won the fight, Cotto thought so himself (See is interview w/ Merchant in the locker romm after the fight)

 

Let's be sincere here... Take note of who the characters are claiming "Floyd won 12 rounds to Zero!"

Pac got more beat up when he fought Cotto then Mayweather did.

What Cotto was doing in that fight was exagerrated greatly. He put up a good fight, but he still only won 2 or 3 rounds. He did better than expected, so people gave him the edge. But still not better than mayweather did.

And there is a reason Pac didn't want to fight Cotto at 154.

 

Only because Pac let Cotto tee off on him.

Pacfans fight harder with their mouths than Pacman does in the ring.

 

Performance wise against a still world class guy like Cotto, none whatsoever. . I think most people knew Cotto would win some rounds in this fight. . .


But it just pretty much reaffirms what most already knew, he is a hypocrite: "Pac fights my leftovers." LULZ FOREVER x 1000000 to the 10th power. . Nelson Muntz: "HA HA" *as he points at Floyd."

 

I don't think it hurt his rep at all. Was a good win. Nothing spectacular, but good.

 

Hurt? The guy just got fighter of the year and was in arguably fight of the year. He beat cotto at his own game in his own weightclass. Even haters like Merchant couldn't hate during the fight as floyd was throwing combos.

This did a lot for floyd rep, showed his toughness which many people have questioned over the years.

 

It showed that he is on a more visable decline more than anything. him fighting once in 1.5 years and had a four rounds Ortiz bout to him getting older. It was the first time i saw him tired after 8 rounds. That and Diaz is a really good and serious trainer who didn't allow Cotto to cut any corners and had Cotto's conditioning even higher than Floyds on that bout. Great game plan and drive.

 

Finding an older, more shopworn Cotto so much more difficult than Pacquiao found a younger, sharper, better version must have hurt Floyd's rep outwith his own fans' circle. It must have. We all expected him to beat Cotto much easier than that. I for one did not anticipate Floyd getting ragdolled and bloodied like in that 8th round, and I certainly did not anticipate Cotto simply outboxing Floyd at times.

 

I think this fight helped mayweather, leading up to the fight he was respectful to cotto he didn't display his usual antics that make people dislike him. He put on a hard earned fight, both guys did. The fight also huminsed him, he wasn't so invincible but dug down and fought a guy who was in his face the whole fight not letting up and clearly won. I don't know how this fight hurt Floyd in anyway, he's getting older legs are going he will have harder fights but is willing to dig down and fight.

 

Is that why he won fighter of the year...because everybody thinks he got his ass kicked by Cotto? If that were the criteria, Manny would have been the runaway winner, please kill yourself.

 

Then you don't know boxing because Cotto using his jab and moving was his best avenue to win.

 

Hurt? He enhanced his reputation mate.
