Yeah you guys thought it would end here, but you're wrong. Mike will come back and learn from this. Khan got sparked in 1 round and look at him now. Jones can do the same thing. He's already on the right path. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OQU8THdfgxU&feature=g-all-lik[/ame] I have to say though, physically, this last fight was the best I've seen Mike. If you have seen his earlier fights, you can tell how much better his legs are. He seems a lot more stable on them and more spring. His conditioning was never tested in the fight, (due to not throwing anything) so I can't tell you about that. Overall I say his new conditioning coach he got right before the Lujan fight is doing good. Mike is one of those guys that I can watch and see an improvement fight to fight. The one thing that disappointed me was his boxing strategy and IQ. :-( It was horrific. He's going on the right approach to condition himself, but he desperately needs to switch trainers. I hope he sticks with Floyd Sr. for good. He can teach him how to use his jab more and with authority. How to use the shoulder roll and use his height fully. Fight in the pocket and also fight at a slower pace. I remembered Floyd Sr. working pads with him in the past and saying how he was the hardest hitting WW he's ever done pads with. After hearing that, I mentioned how Floyd Sr. should train with him full time and maybe this is that chance. I haven't rewatched the Bailey fight yet and the first time I watched it is still a little fuzzy. But I'll give more of my opinion on it later.
You thought his last fight was his best fight? He was gunshy with shitty footwork against a 37 year old, got hit 3 times. The first one scared him, the second one dropped him, and the 3rd one knocked him TFO. Hopefully he learns and comes back from it, wish him the best. At least it wasn't a horrible beat down that ruins a fighter.
no, I think the second JSK fight was his best [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kdwhQKudUHs[/ame] I just think physically like his strength and conditioning, this was his best. He always seemed uneasy on his legs in the past and now he looks more stable and strong
His legs looked terrible, guy needs a new conditioner. Reminded me of khan in the Prescott fight, way too top heavy on flamingo legs, no wonder he can't take a punch. He could definitely bounce back to some extent with the right conditioning. The real problem with Jones tho is hes horrible to watch, ugly style and never in fan friendly fights. Let's see Brool vs Jones, battle of the WW hype
All he had to do was stay out of the way. F the hbo crew. They still put Hopkin's fights on the air and he is terrible to watch, the most boring fighter out there. Now they have Ward who's equally boring on their air. Just stink it out and win, let lampley or kellerstein get on the air if they want excitement.
Jones will be back. He may not make the impact that was expected early on, but he'll make some noise. Won't be the first up and comer to get picked off by a veteran with KO power.
It really reminded me of Foreman vs Moorer Jones was in control he was way ahead albeit he didnt look great but he did what he had to vs a guy who could spark him at any time I also think Jones would win a rematch all he would have to do is just not get caught Jones is far from perfect he is not great but he can get there if he does the right things makes the right adjustments He was way ahead and got caught, unless he lets it bother him he should be able to recover
If you seen his legs in the past, then you can see an improvement. He was never able to really sit down on his punches in the past and in this fight, he was able to do it more and actually bend his knees. Also one problem I see with Mike is he tries to use the headmovement of a shorter fighter. He'll try to bob and weave under you after his punches. That's why I think Floyd Sr. is such a great hook up because he can teach him how to defend like a taller fighter. Floyd Jr has been the taller opponent for most of his career and knows how to incorporate headmovent in his defense properly. He's so good at fighting tall that he even beats fighters how are taller than him from long range (Oscar, Mosley, Ortiz).
The main thing I'm concerned about is his BALANCE. Like I mentioned before, his balance looks greatly improved in his legs, but overall his balance is still utter crap. It's not from lack of stability or strength though. This is from bad boxing technique. This is where I hope Floyd Sr. comes in also and fixes him.
It's like he's too top heavy or something and it throws everything off course. Maybe he can try growing a tail or something to balance himself because he's going to need a damned miracle worker to get right again, maybe lose a bit of mass in upperbody. Wonder how much he lifts?
To be honest his legs have always looked way too skinny to me and against Bailey I couldn't see any difference...look at how he tries to get up from the second kd, his body wants up but his legs jut ain't having it. His balance is ****ed cos he's way too top heavy. Mikes a nice guy though and I wish him all the best with his career
Khan was in his early 20's when he got KO'd. Mike Jones will be 30 in less than a year. Khan was an olympic medalist. Jones' amateur background is nowhere near as decorated. It's an uphill battle for Jones, a steep uphill battle.
Dude, you are generally a solid poster but your love for Jones is blinding you to the obvious Fact that he has no Chin and no future. None. He already knew it prior to the Bailey fight because he has been tentative as of late and he is only going to get worse in that regard since being brutally and embarrassingly KOed in front of a nationwide audience. I would put my faith in someone else besides a fighter who never impressed on the big stage and got put spark out by two punches.
