Big ups to Danny Garcia. He was a big underdog. Once again, Khan acted like a fight was forgone conclusion, and talked more about Mayweather than his actual opponent. Garcia's dad had the ultimate faith in his son and was villified for it(Lampley went at him hard in the fighter's meeting). Khan also came out fast and landed some big shots in the first round. Through it all, Garcia remained calm and focused, and never lost confidence. Garcia's shots are wide, his hands aren't that fast, and he's not an elite athlete. However, he has a ton of heart, a good chin, and he's a very intelligent fighter. I was very impressed by his performance. As far as Khan, he's looking more and more like Jorge Linares; a sumpremely hyped fighter with speed, athleticisim, and who looks astheticially pleasing at times on the offensive end. Like Linares, Khan also has a problem taking a punch and has no semblence of a defense. Khan's defense consists of him either pushing, or just straight up running away. He has no survival skills. There are now three blueprints to beating Khan. Prescott played the role of the puncher and knocked him out, Peterson played the role of the swarmer, and beat him, and Garcia played the role of the boxer(counter puncher to be more specific) and knocked him out. Khan's chin will always be suspect. However, unless he developes some sort of defense, it's only a matter of time before this happens again. He's lost 3 times now to guys he was a big favorite to beat. There's a real issue here.
I read an article from a British writer who commented that 'This will be the last time Khan overlooks an opponent', which I think is quite clearly bull****. There's no reason to suggest that he overlooked Garcia, he just couldn't take his power. He trained hard, looked in good shape, boxed well for two and a half rounds but when he got hit, it all went wrong. It does Garcia a disservice to say that Khan took his eye off the ball. Khan fought as well as he could do but he simply can't take a punch.
I don't think Khan overlooked Garcia. However, constantly talking about another opponent is dismissive and insulting. That can cause some guys to lose confidence. iTdidn't phase Garcia which is the point I was trying to convey. And frankly, Khan only did well in round 1. Garcia had him timed in round two, and was landing plenty of good counters before that KD.
Garcia has made me a fan, id only seen him fight Morales previously and I liked what I saw in that fight. The great thing regarding Garcia is that he's still young and from here he will only get better. Great performance.
