Amir khan needs a new trainer?

Yes.

He should get Floyd Sr. or Jeff Mayweather to train him. He needs to be more defensive and be able to tie up better. He just always tries to fight back when he's hurt, and that's to his detriment.

manny steward would be good for khan. He would utilise his natural speed in a more cautious way, working behind his jab much more and picking his shots more carefully. I wouldn't say a counter puncher but certainly make him more methodical in his work. Freddy is brilliant at getting his guys attacking, combination punching and smart movement but that way of fighting won't work if you don't have atleast a decent level of punch resistance.

 

Maybe Sr. would be a bit bad for him. How about Jeff?

 

Khan is like how Wlad was after getting wiped out by Sanders.

Steward works well with this type of fighter.

Its easy to say now but I always thought that Roach and Khan were a strange mix as Roach trys to get fighters to boxer better , where as Khan is a boxer who needs to just keep boxing.

 

Ann Wolfe (just kidding ) But I like the Steward & Sr choices, Maybe Sr. can try to get him to fight like DLH when he had him.

There is nothing that you can do to fix the problem, Khan has allot of defensive flaws and doesnt have a chin that allows him to get away with that.
Those flaws have been with him since he was a kid in the amateurs its going to be almost impossible to break those habits now, that should have been the first thing Roach focused on was his fighters defense, reaching habits, head movement, keeping them hands up

 

A new trainer won't increase the strength of his chin. Yeah, he may learn to protect it better, but eventually he'll still get hit & this guy has a phobeia.

Wlad has a poor chin , but Steward has shown him how to protect it and since the Sanders fight he hasnt looked back.
