What's the deal with everybody criticising Garcia's boxing game?
He has good speed, power and excellent timing. He was swinging wildly at times sure, but he had the guy out on his feet.
He keeps his balance and is composed when punches are coming at him.
His timing is excellent and that's the biggest thing in most sports.
Is it because Steward was going on about how he's never been impressed by him and that he's a good all round fighter but nothing special?

Garcia doesn't like to throw the right hand straight down the pipe but that's not a flaw, the looping right is harder to defend against as it's unpredictable and it produces more torque than a traditional straight right that is easily picked off. Steward is stuck in the past, a lot of the top amateurs from countries like Ukraine throw that looping rear hand punch and have a lot of success.
Steward is all jab, straight, hook. He makes fighters predictable and boring, look at what he did to Chad Dawson when he trained with him.

Steward is also a terrible commentator, just as bad as Lampley. Both guys decide on what they believe they'll see then continue with that line despite the opposite thing happening in front of their faces.

That's not why he was throwing looping shots. Garcia can throw the straight right, I have see him do it many times.

The reason he was throwing looping shots was because he was getting beat to the punch by Khan's speed, so his defense was counters with looping shots trying to catch Khan pulling out with his hands down and that's exactly what happened.

Garcia is a good boxer, not great but good but Khan's speed can make anyone look bad.

I actually didn't see Garcia look bad at any point in that fight, he was landing counter punches from the opening bell.
I'm aware that he does throw straight rights at times, it was more in reference to Steward's criticism saying that he only throws looping rights and he's just an average boxer.

watched it 3 more times and thought Garcia took round 2 and was doing great he stuck to his plan and it paid off

great win and i loved the composure, big fight vs a faster taller guy and he never once panicked or anything

Well he's not a great boxer, I think we can say that. I also think Khan is a better boxer but that's not what wins fights.

Kahn is a terrible boxer. He relies on pure athleticism and speed. Still lunges like an novice. He need a more defensive minded coach cause Roach isn't teaching him ****.

He does not have good speed, but he does have great timing. Especially against a predictable opponent.

Barely a minute into the fight, Khan was scoring, but Garcia was connecting with some great counters.

Yup. Freddy Roaches fighters are all slowly getting exposed. With the lack of simple defensive skills. Like keeping up those hands when in opponents range.

Boxing is a game of inches.

Khan isn't anywhere near being the better boxer. Look at his athleticism and look at his losses. He is not skilled or a good boxer in any sense of the word. There are journeymen with better boxing skills than Khan.

I still don't think that much of Garcia. He's slow of hand and speed and he has no head movement. And stopping Khan doesn't mean he has massive power. He drops his head and swings wildly and sometimes they connect. He did time Khan on the way in which was fairly impressive, and he's young so can certainly improve. Will be interesting to see how he performs next.
