So damned true! I was so shocked to see Freddie in the corner after the 3rd. I was waiting for the HoF wisdom, the 4x trainer of the year expertise, and what we got was the quivalent of "drink some water baby". :rofl
This is really horrible to say , but Roach has slowed a lot over the past two years due to the Parkinsons and I think he looked completely lost in there.
He was always a over rated trainer. Quite frankly he's only considered a good trainer because of Pacquiao. It's more apparent now more so than ever that Ariza should get more credit for Manny's and Khan's sucess than Roach. He does'nt breed complete fighters. His training relies on guys with super conditioning and being able to take punches due to the limitations Roach instills in them.
Come on , he was around long before Pacquiao and lets be honest when he got Manny when he was a long was from what he is today. Roach is just like any other trainer , he has one way of coaching and maybe it doesnt work for Khan.
By being ineffective. Let's be honest here. Freddy in the corner is at times... indecipherable. That is a big no-no when you have a minute before getting hit in the head again.
I don't think he's finished. Chavez Jr. looks better than ever. Some attribute that to Sr., but he's not the one instructing him during sparring sessions. Manny lost to most against Juan Manuel Marquez. Nothing new or terribly embarrassing there. The man has his number and Pacquiao's improvements don't mean he's a totally different fighter without the same essential style. Khan loses due to his own damn fault. Roach is the one that made Khan an effective outside fighter with a stiff jab, high guard, and lateral movement. Whenever Amir deviates is when he falters, whether it be to prove his chin, or excite the crowd, or over-confidently go for the knockout against an opponent. Maybe more instructions on inside fighting would have helped, but post-Prescott, the plan was avoid getting knocked the **** out at all costs; I think Roach would rather not encourage him to trade or stand toe to toe in the pocket. Linares he just wasn't paying enough attention to.
