He's been a favorite of mine for a long time......I thought he edged Mayweather in their first fight, 7-5, or at least deserved a draw.......What do you all think of him?

He was a killer at his best. He was unbelieveably strong, with an inpenetrable chin, and very smart, savy boxing skills that he never got credit for.

Jose's big downfall was the fact that he was a painfully slow starter. It never seemed like he started throwing punches in bunches until the fourth or fifth round. But from that point it was a non-stop avalanche.

One of his best wins came against Cesar Bazan. Bazan was an excellent fighter before JLC got to him. That was a horror show beat down. After the fight there was a rumor that Bazan was beaten up so badly to his body that his right kidney died or stopped working or something. Bazan was clearly never the same, picking up loses to guys he would have whipped.

Won about 11 of 24 rounds against Floyd Mayweather which is a pretty good effort.

Had he been a welterweight in his prime now, he would have been the exact type to whip the current Mayweather seeing that his legs are going.

Thought he was lucky to get the wins against Stevie J (particularly the first) but also pretty unlucky to lose against Corrales the way he did after he was clearly beginning to break him down.

Didn't have much finesse, but did the simply things well and had the strength, stamina and chin to impose himself on most lightweights without extraordinary abilities.
