This is proof of corruption yet again. Like you need 7 seconds more, It's called MAKE TIME! As you said, Cut down commercials by a few seconds, then come back and do highlights, Or don't, I could care less either way. :conf

NBC has great shows but if all this childish drama gets in the way it's gonna ruin a great opportunity for boxing.

Yeah, I agree with this. If this gets boxing back on TV, it's not an issue at all, I don't think.

Adapt or die. If boxing doesn't work with the networks, they will find something else to air. I'm pretty sure boxing's ratings wouldn't be too hard to duplicate.

Look at what happened during the NHL strike. ESPN aired poker, got the same ratings, and hockey was banished.

I hate adverts between rounds. they should swap from each corner every other round. UNLESS one guy gets knocked down or something, go to his corner to see how they react.

I can't believe people bitching against this.

As jeffjoiner mentioned, adapt or die. Make the sport more marketable so that it can grow and fighters can get paid a decent wage. In a sport filled with corrupt judges, commissions, promoters, drug testing, ect, the time betweent the rounds is the least of our concerns, particularly if it benifits the fighters with a slightly longer rest but more importantly tv exposure and pay.

Lets adept then and make it more marketable
Punch clock if you havent punched within 3 seconds you lose a point
4oz Gloves and fight never end unless theres a knockout we know casuals love big KOS
you arnt allowed to raise your gloves above your chest unless throwing a punch

It doesn't matter if the adverts are one 30 second ad, 2 30 second ad, or 2 20 second adds. The ONLY thing that will keep this on the air will be whether or not they bring ratings. And that comes by making fights people will not only tune into, but come back to watch. The product is what will make this successful and worth NBC's time, not how long the ****in adverts are. That's just milking.

Time keepers extend rounds. Judges, supposed to stop the clock will often motion fighters to nuetral corners soas inspect a cut, clean up water, retape, or any number of reasons. But when the fighters actually engage, oftentimes as much as 20 seconds has elapsed before the fighters start the round.

It works to a hurt or tired fighters advantage since he can either catch one more breath, or only have to survive 90% of the round.

I see now reason why the network financing the comeback to boxing to the casual fans should not be allowed their ad time, plus 7 measley seconds to show us more action.:thumbsup

Soccer has always had rating. Broadcasters here in the US refused to air it until recently because primarily there was no "commercial time".
It took decades and one the last 10 years we have soccer being broadcast in major networks.

While rating is the most important factor, it is not the only factor.
    Broadcasters needs to make money.

You can't cut down commercials without costing you something. Longer commercials means higher advertising cost means more revenue. It is a pretty simple mechanism to understand.

You cannot systematically make your clients commercials shorter without it costing you. These are contracted agreements.

Boxing needs the right platforms to grow, 7 seconds is really nothing, give it to NBC.

We're talking about NBC, not ESPN or ESPN 2. Their slots are more coveted then those found on basic cable. And there's no reason to believe they won't make money by adding 6 more seconds. IMHO, they're just milking for more.
