Prime Mike Tyson vs 70's George Foreman

He beat Frazier and Norton (Norton was scared to death and froze) then did nothing else in prime. What he accomplished coming back in 1990's was great, but does not make him better in prime than Tyson.

 

I agree.

Tyson cleaned out the division, and in about as dominant of fashion as anybody.

 

Foreman's quality of opposition was not the best but he did have some eye opening splatterfests against Frazier twice and Norton. The Lyle fight was one of the best ever in terms of back and forth savagery. Think Hagler-Hearns but at heavyweight with more brink of defeat momentum swings.

Foreman's second coming was incredible. Despite not facing the big 3 power guys in Tyson, Bowe and Lewis, Foreman held his own against Holyfield, Morrison and of course beating Moorer. But he wasn't beating the elite guys. Looking back he was extremely overrated.

It's funny, because before Tyson went to prison practically nobody picked Foreman to beat him in a prime for prime battle. I've scoured magazines and books and found out that the only heavyweight favored to beat Mike the majority of the time was Ali. So Tyson falls short of his and our goals post prison, and despite being past his best by half a decade after the Holyfield losses, all of a sudden certain heavyweights who aren't bullied would stand up to him and beat him down. Complete bull****.

 

Foremans career second time around was all smoke and mirrors. beautifully managed to get him money and title shots. It delivered both.

He was honest at the time about not facing Lewis, as he said he'd lose to him.

Tyson post prison had a similar career too.

It's easy to say "if the Lyle fight had had 20 more seconds we wouldn't be having this conversation.

No. But the Douglas loss is written off right, even though Tyson was what, 23? That's pretty young to be past your best.

If Bruno followed up his good shot in the first fight we may not be having this conversation. Or if Tyson stays out of jail and loses a couple more times before he's 25 we might not be either.

I think Tyson. But there's no doubt it's a tough fight. Foreman was bigger, huge height, reach and strength advantage. **** the weights, it's clear Foreman is easily string enough to push Tyson around. If Tuson ears a couple of uppercuts on the way in, that could easily turn it Foremans way.

I think Foreman may win due to styles... I think it is close though, I could see Tyson knocking him out as well...

But in terms of accomplishments, Foreman is a greater fighter....By far in my opinion.

where do people get the "tyson ducked foreman" shite from? after all, foreman was offered a contract 3 times to fight tyson and 3 times FOREMAN turned it down....

 

would have been awesome if foreman had come back sooner, in the early 80s, these two going h2h near their primes!

Up to very early 30 years Foreman would have young Tyson, but after that its tysons by KO.

h2h primes? Gotta say Tyson is made for George to KO, but only if he is smart enough to avoid Mikey's relentlesss early attacks or taking him out before Mike gets going.
