I agree he may not have any really great wins but neither has Rees. I think Thompson in this day and age could win himself an alphabet strap like Rees did.

Without a shadow of a doubt RA , Guys like Jeff Malcolm , Brian Curvis , Eddie Thomas etc would all have held a section of the fragmented title these days thats why i argue blokes like Eddie Avoth's case . :good

Josey , youre tripping mate . Lets see Rees fight an absolutely prime Roberto Duran in Panama City like Hec did . Rees wouldnt last 2 rounds against Duran . He wouldnt last 4 against the great Antonio Cervantes either. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=V7c-vCbV0es&feature=related[/ame]

Heavyweight I'm giving to Farr.Jackson was a West Indian and Hungarian Pom Joe is no Aussie fighter . Light Heavy Ill go with Calzaghe at 175 I think he'd beat Harding fairly easily. Middleweight Sands or Darcy by a mile . Welter Ill go with Colin Jones . Although Kostya would have beaten him in his prime I cant claim him as as Aussie fighter .Lightweight its a tie Freddie Welsh was a pioneer legend and us aussies have Young Griffo who was the same . Featherweight Fammo over Winstone any day . Fammo was more robust than Howard . He was robbed against Saldivar . Jem Driscoll was a great but I think the duo of Fenech and Fammo gives us Aussies the edge . Bantamweight Im going with Lionel Rose and Flyweight is a mismatch with the great Jimmy Wilde getting the nod in a one round kayo over Henry Nissen , Brian Roberts , Hussy Hussein etc etc. Cheers Mate . Kick arse Thread . 5 - 4 to the Taffys in the 9 true weight classes .

 Thanks mate , I will do this thread again further down the road with Australia v The Irish , then the Scot's and finally the English , some solid debate will be the result i reckon . Australia has produced some fantastic fighters over the years when you consider the size of its Population and geography . :deal

Give me your selection from the original weight classes and i can probably argue it a close win for Wales . England thrashes the lot of us sadly with a bit to spare imo
