Hatton definitely wasn't favourite at the bookies I used but it was closer than it should have been.

If you consider the top end estimate is that it did 1.4 million buys which is about the same as Lewis vs Tyson (750,000) and Bruno vs Tyson(660,000) combined.

Keep in mind the fight was at about 4:30am also, it was a mega fight.

People in over here are suckers for unbeaten records. I remember the fact both where unbeaten being forced down our throats.

All my mates who have little/no interest in boxing watched it, and backed Hatton. I always wanted and thought Floyd would win.

1.4 million buys is mental though for the UK. Didn't Mayweather/Cotto do 1.5m? That just shows how big it actually was! Hatton was Sky's golden boy for such a long time.

It was massive. Non boxing people got into it in a big way. Gathered in the clubs and the pubs in the middle of the night to watch it.
I remember a whole group of lads I know around 2pm on the afternoon of the fight starting out on their drinking session which culminated in the local club 12 hours later to watch the fight! Mainly football fans.
They were saying how they had money on Hatton and I had to bring them down to earth and tell them although I like Ricky save your dough he's getting knocked out.
Of course not being boxing fans they just looked at me as though I was bonkers.

    ooh man! IT was HUGE!!!
I miss that sort of atmosphere... i cant wait for hatton to comeback, bring back the excitement. Khan doesnt generate the same sort of buzz. nothing to do with his colour of skin rather he is a very boring and uninteresting individual although his fights are action packed.

I remember everyone making bets, it was all over the news, the papers, being talked about everywhere!
hatton is big over here and mayweather is very well respected as a boxer in the UK.

I wish we have more of these fights that attract casual fans too
