It's actually the other way around, most Asians/muslims support him because they're the same ethnicity/religion as him and nothing more. Just the other day my cousin and his friends told me how can I not support another muslim brother. I said I don't give a **** what religion he is.
How come Naseem Hamed packed out stadiums of mainly white people? Cheering crowds in Newcastle, London, Manchester and Scotland? Why does Ricky Hatton get slated on here? Before Calzaghe fought Lacy, he was probably the most mocked, derided fighter on these boards. It has **** all to do with race. Sure SOME ****s don't like Khan due to race, religion etc, but don't go off the trolls on Youtube as the reason so many on here are sick of him. He comes across as an idiot with the stuff he says, the team around him and has not helped himself. But plenty still support him, I still wanted him to win against Garcia and watch the difference with how people react to Kal Yafai who comes across really well. I bet you there will be nothing like the dislike for him that Khan gets. Don't forget too that this is partly what British sportsfans are like. Ever seen anyone get the hatred that Beckham got? Or Gerrard gets now from none LFC fans? The lambasting Murray gets on so many message boards...
How much you earn has no bearing on whether you're racist or not. Given that the other day you said mixed race marriages were "morally wrong", I'd say he read you pretty well, which is a surprise given how poorly he has read the situation around Khan in general.
i think the hate he used to get here was much more after prescott and then barrera... but after that he went on a decent run and at one point became THE man at 140. so he backed up his talking with good wins amd entertaining fights. this suggests most hate, at least here is not related to race but rather his performance and ability. i know i certainly respected him more after the maidana fight and took some great motivation from what he withstood in the late rounds of that fight. he really won me over with that. People who **** on him now, were the same ones who were saying he was going to walk over garcia. and find an easy target to mock his chin etc. like someone said, that's the type of sportsfan boards like this attract. Right now, khan is well supported on these boards, his fans wish he would improve though. if you look back before he was unproven, there was more envy and more hatered for the postion he found himself in. a bit like degale is now. if Degale comes back and fights as much as he talks - he might EARN respect like Khan did.
he's never gonna be accepted in this country imo. ive heard that fans call him a dirty p_aki? any truth to that? yet when he lost to garcia the americans were cheering him...they really love him over there
i had friends who went to the MEN during the berrara fight and they mentioned that there was allot of tension between the khan fans and the white fans. I think i manchester they well and truely hate him, and i think allot of its down to his culture/religion.
Football rivalries are another matter, Naseem Hamed belonged to a different pre 9/11 EDL era, Calzaghe Hatton, neither has engendered the same level of nasty vitriol as Khan....and most importantly I said 'SOME' are racist, just like you did.
if anyone thinks there was no racism aimed against khan, you guys need to take a look back at the fbook group which was created after the prescott fight, there were thousands of comments mocking his race/religion.
